RECREATION. BEACH & TREE COMMISSION September 29f 1953 The adjourned meeting of the Parks, Recreation, Beach and Tree Com- mission met Tuesday evening, September 29th, at the City Hall. Meeting was called to order at 7*^0 P. M. A report on the trimming of trees at the corner of Pine and McKinley Streets was reported by Mrs. Pelt, and a motion made that Mr. Shore be given permission to trim necessary trees and remove the one in driveway as requested. Motion was seconded by Dr. Glines and carried. Letter was read by Mr. Oldham from Mrs. H. J. Springsteen regard- ing suggestions for a park. It was suggested the letter be printed in the paper if agreeable to Mrs. Springsteen. It was felt this might in- spire other suggestions from the public. Another letter was read from Mr. Knappe requesting permission to remove four trees at the northwest corner of Elm and Harding. He is planning to build a gas station. It was stated all trees on Elm would have to be removed in the near future, as Elm Avenue had been zoned as a major thoroughfare. It was suggested when these trees were removed, they be replaced with coccus plumosa to conform with trees already in. A motion was made by Jerry McClellan to approve Mr. Knappe's re- quest for permission to remove any one or all of the trees as specified, at applicant's expense; that applicant be informed the general policy of the Commission is to require replacement of trees removed; that in this case, such replacement will not be required, but that favorable consid- eration of applicant be requested to replace trees removed with coccus plumosa trees, which variety now line Elm Avenue to the west of this location, compatible with development of the property in question. Motion was seconded by Dr. Glines. Motion carried. A request was made to Howard Oldham by the Telephone Company to trim trees at Highland Avenue and Oak Streets so a cable could be strung. Mr., Oldham recommended they put poles on the other side of street so as not to spoil the looks of the trees. No further word has been received from the Telephone Company. Letter was read by Mr. Oldham, from Mr. Heggland to Newton B. Drury in regards to the lease of the State Park. Mrs.Sutton suggested a letter be sent Mr. Drury from the Park Commission. A letter was also read from Ralph Cloyed, sent to Kenneth Ebright, President of the Chamber of Commerce, in regard to sending a representa- tive to a meeting regarding coastal harbors on the West Coast, time and place not given. Meeting adjourned at 9:^5 P. M. EVA ji. PELT, Secretary pro tern.
