BEACH & TREE COMMISSION October 27 The regular meeting of the Parks, Recreation, Beach & Tree Commis- sion was held Tuesday evening, October 27, 1953, at 7:30 P. M. at the City Hall. The following were present: Mr. Oldham, Mrs. Pelt, Dr. Glines, Jerry MeClellan, Vesta Stuart and Mrs. Lena Sutton who introduced a new member to the Commission, Mrs. Kay Christiansen. We had two very charming guests, Carla Nissen and Natalie Vermilyea of Troop 263 - Girl Scouts of Carlsbad. They very ably took part in the procedure of business and also entered into the discussions. Mr. Oldhaia reported correspondence from Mrs. G. W. Getze regarding pepper trees over the walk. This was turned over to the Traffic Engin- eer, Mr. Barter, to remove the branches necessary. The request of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sweeney to have a large eucalyp- tus tree removed from in front of her property at 32*14 Harding Street was read. No action taken. Mrs. Pope of 3286 Lincoln reported a large limb had fallen in front of her property. This was referred to Joe Apodaca. Also the same ac- tion was taken on a request for the removal of a fallen limb from the parkway of Mrs. Osuna, 4-75 Chestnut Street. She also stated the tree was dangerous. A letter was read from Mrs. Felicia Nichols, 163 Juniper Street, in response to the item appearing in the paper asking for suggestions for a plan of tree planting. Mrs. Pelt was asked to make a call on Mrs. Nichols and ask her to sponsor a neighborhood group regarding a uniform planting; also extend an invitation to attend one of our meetings. A letter commending the action of the Commission in its endeavor to get parkways and lots cleaned was received from the Woman's Club. Gretchen Tuthill of Bird-in-Hand Ranch, Skyline Road, wrote, stating that all trees should be trimmed before plans for planting new ones are made. Under unfinished business the trash ordinance, to be known as Ordinance #5010, was read. A motion made by Dr. Glines and seconded by Mrs. Pelt to accept this ordinance and to submit this to the Carlsbad City Council with our recommendation it be passed. The motion was passed by unanimous vote. - 1 - Mrs. Button stated the planting of shrubs around the City Hall was to be turned over to the Commission. Under new business a short discussion was held on the need for an over-all plan for beautification of Carlsbad. It was decided we should work very closely with the Planning Commission and other groups interested in this endeavor. Also, mention was made by Mrs. Stuart of the rumor that a Jetty was to be built by the Gas Company; also the advantages of a Harbor was dis- cussed. Mr. Oldham and Mr. McClellan stated they were attending a meet- ing in San Diego and would have more information at the next meeting. Respectfully submitted, VESTA STUART, Secretary,
