BEACH & TREE COMMISSION" November 24 Regular meeting of the Parks, Recreation, Beach and Tree Commission was held in the City Hall on November 24, 1953, at ?:30 P. H., with the following present: Howard Oldham, Mrs. Pelt, Jerry McGlellan, Ben Aouna, Mrs. Chris ten son, Mrs. Button and Vesta Stuart. At the invitation of the Commission Mrs. Felicia Nichols was present and gave a report on her survey of 43 families in the Palisades district, regarding their interest in a uniform tree planting of their district. After discussion of the various types of trees, it was decided that the commission would get prices on quantity and information on proper plant- ing. However, they have suggested the myoporum west of Garfield, the flowering eucalyptus on Garfield, and the pittosporum east of Garfield, as being suited to these locations. Mr. McClellan reported that he and Mrs. Oldham had approached Mr. Eddie Kentner, asking him to set aside a part of his property for a small park. He seemed to consider the suggestion favorably. Informal discussion was held regarding the location of a new City Hall and suggested Mr. Oldham let Mr. Ray Ede, the Site chairman, know that the Commission looked favorably upon the new plan of the Royal Palms Hotel site. Mrs. Sutton reported that the San Diego County Supervisors are no longer going to keep the property at Bassvrood & Pine. They were asked to have a sale of the property at this time but it was suggested it might be rented to the City on a 3-year basis, offering ,#150.00 yearly rental. A motion made by Jerry McClellan, seconded by Mrs. Pelt, to ask the City Attorney to draw a lease with option to buy, that would enable the Com- mission to submit it to the Carlsbad City Council, asking them to consider it for park and playground purposes. Motion carried. Mr. Oldham reported he has been sitting in on the Planning Board relative to getting parks into their overall plan. A communication was read from Newton B. Drury, Chief of the Division of Beaches and Parks of the State Park Commission. He requested a meeting with the Commission at 2 P. M., December 2, 1953. The chairman appointed Mrs. Christenson, Dr. Glines, Ben Acuna as the Committee to meet with him. Mrs. Sutton reported on a meeting of the Committee on Harbors which - 1 - met in Ventura, stating if oil funds are made available to California, some funds will be allocated for small harbors and parks. Information that a meeting will be held in Carlsbad on December 10, with Mr. Roloff, Director of Public Relations of Harbors and Ports, to promote a small boat harbor in Carlsbad. A memo from Mayor HcClellan was read, asking a survey to be made of all dangerous trees in Carlsbad. This was referred to the Tree Committee, Mrs. Felt, Chairman, There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made. Respectfully submitted, VESTA STUAHT, Secretary, V
