HomeMy WebLinkAbout1954-01-12; Parks & Recreation Commission; MinutesMINUTES OF MEETING OP CARLSBAD PARKS, RECREATION, BEACH & TREE COMMISSION January 12 A special meeting of the Parks, Recreation, Beach & Tree Commission was held January 12, 195^, in the City Hall at ?:30 P. M. The following were present: Mr. Oldham, Mrs. Felt, Mr, Aeuna, Mrs. Button and Mrs. Stuart. The meeting was called so that the residents from the Palisades Area could take part in the discussions and plans recommended by the Com- mission for tree planting in their district. Mr. Jerry MoClellan outlined a plan to those present. This con- sisted of information on types of trees to plant and ways of financing. We offered to purchase and sell the trees to the residents of the Palisades at cost. Mrs. Nichols reported she had arranged for block chairman who would get list of those accepting trees and collect their cost. She also gave a partial report of those who would take trees as of January 12, 195^. Mrs. Martin on Carlsbad Boulevard spoke, asking we plan on planting palms on Carlsbad Boulevard and offered to make a survey. Mrs. Harry Bales, 3450 Garfleld, and Marlon Wllhelms, 3771 Oarfield, spoke regarding having only one kind of tree, the flowering eucalyptus. A motion to this effect was made by Jerry McClellan and seconded by Mrs. Felt and was carried, and an order was to be placed for these. On Saturday, January 16th, a survey by Mr. Oldham and Jerry Mo- Clellan was to be made to mark planting site in order to arrive at the number of trees needed and to consult with any property owners who so de- sired. The Tree Committee, Mrs. Felt and Mrs. Stuart, made a report on a survey requested by Mayor McClellan on the bad condition of trees. This report was to be sent the Mayor and a copy placed in our files. A motion was made by Mrs. Stuart and seconded by Mrs. Felt that estimates be had on trimming trees (eucalyptus trees on corner of Grand and State and alley) .
