RECREATION. iCH & TREE COMMISSION December 14 . 1954 The Commission met for breakfast at 7:30 A. M. in the dining room of the Carlsbad Hotel* All Commissioners were present, with the exception of Dr. Glines. The Chairman appointed Mr. Nielsen Chairman of the Parks and Beaches subcommittee. A memorandum from the City Attorney was read regarding the legal obligation of the City as respect removal of trees in or along streets and alleys. Chairman Felt agreed to contact Mr. Valdez who had requested W£removal of a tree in the alley behind his home, and advise him that* were unable at this time to remove the trees in question, for financial reasons. Comm. Stuart moved and Comm. Westree seconded a motion that the Sec- retary write a letter to Councilman Sutton extending an invitation to him to attend any or all of our meetings he can find time to do so, since the activities of this Commission are apparently within his scope of respon- sibility. Motion carried. Comm. Christiansen suggested that Helms Bakeries be thanked for des- troying the sucker growth on the tree stump east of their building, and be asked when replacement trees will be planted in this area. Comm. Wes- tree agreed to talk to Mr. Nichols, local manager of Helms'. Comm. Westree moved that the second scheduled meeting for Deceamber (December 28th) be dispensed with. Comm. Christiansen seconded the motion* Motion carried. The next regular meeting will be held on January llth 195j£T~a*t 7:30 A. M. for breakfast at the Carlsbad Hotel. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 A. M* G.
