December 15, 1955
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Westree at 7:30 A.M,
by Chairman lestree at Hilda's Restaurant, Present besides the Chairman
were Commissioners, Felt, Christiansen, McClellan, Neilson, Stuart and Huntington.
A policy regarding tree removal was formulated as follows:
Every possible effort will be exerted to conserve trees in Carlsbad,
Requests received for trimming or removal; it is the recommendation
of the Park and Recreation Commission that the Department of
Public Works be given authority to approve removal or trimming
of any trees, at property owner's expense, if the tree or trees
constitute an actual menace to life or property* The Park and
Recreation Commission will be contacted if expenditure of City
funds from the Park and Recreation budget is considered advisable
by the Public Works Department for necessary tree trimming.
Other requests for tree removal will be referred to the Park and
Recreation Commission, It is considered advisable that suitable
trees replace any trees removed.
Action wastaken on the following requests for removal or trimndngr
Getae: Trimming previously authorized,
Dyehe: Trimming previously authorized,
Gastroy Trimming Previously authorized,
Gospel Tabernacle: It was the decision of the Commission that of the
seven Cypress trees on East side of Jefferson, end trees are to
remain and consent given to remove every other tree (three trees)
and the City will pay 50/6 of cost if property owners pay other
50$.
Kinmant 1138 Knowles Avenue: Removal of Camphor tree not approved
since, after inspection, the Commission believes it is. beautiful
tree, well placed} planting underneath appears to be satisfactory
and it is recommended that the tree be conserved,
Tolles: 3091 Jefferson - Request for removal of Eucalyptus tree
for proposed carport. After physical Inspection, removal not
recommended as it does not appear to be essential, since driveway
access seems to be adequate. Commission recommends trimming of
all three Eucalyptus trees on this property,
Gettle: Tree located on East side alleyway between Madison and Jefferson
at Grandj requested prunning, low hanging branches. The 6ommlssion
requests the Public Works Department to trim same*
Palms - Elm Street; It is recommended that the Public Workd Department
trim dead Palm fronds on Palm frees located on Elm Avenue, between
State and Madison,
Morabek: Chestnut, East of Carlsbad Blvd - Request removal of dead Pine
Trees, It is recommended that the Public Works Department remove
dead Pine trees, including roots*
Commissioner Huntington reported the Jr, High Chamber of Commerce, under
the supervision of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, is sponsoring a Christmas
Decoration Contest. Two prizes have been authorized for daytime and night
decorations.
