The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was
called to order in the City Council Chambers at
7:30 p.m. by Chairman Ron Schwab.
ROLL CALL:
Ron Schwab James Kinghorn

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes of the October 18, 1976, meeting were
approved as mailed.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. citizen's Request for Skateboard Park
Mr. Johnson has received a request for a skate-
board park. The request is based on the dis-
satisfaction of the requestor with the prices and
location of the privately owned park in Carlsbad.
Mr. Johnson suggested the Commission consider the
liability involved if the city builds a skate-
board park.
Mrs. Rhodes said the City of Oceanside has in-
vestigated the liability of a skateboard park
and could be contacted 'if this project is con-
sidered.
Mr. Egermayer stated he would support the con-
struction of a : skateboard park if the City Council
adopted an ordinance prohibiting all skateboardinc
on city streets.
Mr. Schwab stated since there is a park in Carls-
bad which is adequate, the City not consider con-'
structing a skateboard park.
Mrs. Wollrich moved that the item be table at
this time as not being practical.
Mr. DeDeminicantanio seconded the motion.

B. Carlsbad Municipal Tennis Club and Courts
Mr. Johnson explained he had _been approached by
an architect with a proposal for a municipal
tennis club and courts. He requested the Commis-
sion study the proposal and relay recommendations
to him.
Mr. Schwab asked if the proposal was going to
Council .
Mr. Johnson said it had to go to Council before
staff could make a study. He asked the Commissio:
to review the proposal before it went to Council
to see if it had merit.

Mr. DeDiminicantanio moved that Mr. Johnson pre-
pare an indepth study.
Mrs. Wollrich amended the motion adding Council
be asked for permission to prepare a study.
Mrs. Wollrich seconded the motion.

Slides of Park Sites
Jon Hatch, Park Superintendent, showed slides of
all areas maintained by Park staff, outlining
types of maintenance and irrigation systems.
Mr. Johnson expressed satisfaction with maintenanc
of the parks.
Plaque for Bandstand
The Carlsbad Board of Realtors have indicated they
would like to put a plaque on the bandstand and
are seeking approval of the.Parks and Recreation
Commission.
The Commission requested a sketch of their ideas
before, giving approval.
OLD BUSINESS;
A. North County Parks and Recreation Commission
Meeting
Mr. Johnson said he had contacted Some Parks and
Recreation Directors in the county and they had
indicated January would be more convenient than
December for the meeting. He also suggested City
Hall as the meeting place.
B. Passage of Proposition 2
Proposition 2 was passed November 4, and $6.2
million will be coming to the County of San Diego
- A committee is to be established to determine
methods of distribution. Mr. Johnson estimated
the City of Carlsbad receiving approximately $70
to $80 thousand.
C. Swimming Pool
Mr. Johnson stated that city staff has met with
the s-ehool board. They approved the original
proposal made in 1974. Other meetings are to
follow.
Kammeyer-Lynch has indicated the proposed site
at the high school is adequate for the pool with-
out purchase of the private property adjacent to
the site.
D. Dedication of Car Country Park
Mr.Schwab thanked the Commissioners who attended
the dedication of Car Country Park November 7,
1976. He reminded them of the dedication of
Laguna Riviera Park December 5, 1976 at 2:00 p.m.

DIRECTOR REPORTS;
The Greenwood Property appears on the Council Agenda
for November 16, 1976. Commissioners were asked to
attend.
Mr. Tarango expressed concern regarding the landscap-
ing at the Weseloh Chevrolet complex.
Mr. Johnson invited Mr. Tarango to visit the Parks
and Recreation office to review the approved landscape
plans.
ADJOURNMENT;
The meeting was adjourned by Chairman Schwab at 9': 15
p.m.
