Council Chambers
The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called
to order in the City Council Chambers at 7:30 p.m.. by
Chairman Don Egermayer.
ROLL CALL:

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes of the April 18, 1977, meeting were
approved as mailed.
•NEW BUSINESS:
A. Tree Removal for Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk
Replacement
Mr.Hatch informed the Commission 5100,000 was
allocated in the 76-77 budget to repair curbs
and gutters damaged by trees. This program
will probably be an ongoing project for the
next two to three years. Trees will be removed
or root pruned. Citizens involved in the program
will be notified of action to be taken.
B. Summer Recreation Program
Mrs. Chase gave the Commission a brief summary
on summer recreation programs. Specifics will
be .provided in the summer brochure. Prog-rams
are scheduled to start the week of June 20, and
run for 10 weeks through August 26.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. Greenwood House Renovation '
Renovation has started. Completion is expected
in approximately 6 weeks.
B. Eugene B. Klyce Bequest - Location of Equipment
Mr. Hatch asked for a recommendations•on the
location of the play equipment to be purchased
with the bequest.
After spine discussion, Mrs. Rhodes moved the
equipment be located at Holiday and Laguna
Riviera Parks.
Mr. Tarange seconded the motion.

C. Update La Costa Canyon Park
Mr' Hatch presented the newest design of La
Costa Canyon Park. -The design includes a tot
lot, parking lot, multi-purpose court, .comfort
station and a large picnic area. This design
allows for the possibile addition of tennis
courts at a later date.

Mr. Tarango moved it be recommendaed to Council
tentative plans be approved for La Costa Canyon
Park to include preliminary grading for future
tennis courts and other recreation facilities.
Mrs. Rhodes seconded the motion.»

D. Update Playground Equipment at Holiday and Cannon
Parks
Specifications for equipment has been approved
by Council and contract awarded to Game Time.
Delivery is expected in approximately 30 - 60 '
days .
E. Update Magee Hous-e
Dedication of the Magee House will be. July 4 or
July 16 in conjunction with Carlsbad's 25th
Anniversary. It has been requested a landscape
architect be hired to prepare a master plan.
F. Update Swimming Pool
The E.I.R. was mailed in the Commissioners'
packets. Discussion will be at the next meeting.
G. Harding Street Community Center
Proposals for architectural services for renovatioi
have been mailed. • Currently steps are being taken
to solve the parking problem.
H. La Vante Park
Mr. Hatch presented a tentative plan for La Vante
Park. The design includes a ball field, comfort
station, sand volleyball court and approximately
2 acres of turf. An agreement between the City
and La Costa Land Company for maintenance is
currently being negotiated.
I.- Recreation Leader III - Lynda Betts
Ms. Betts is from El Cajon and has worked in a
supervisory capacity for approximately 21/2 years
She is experienced in playgrounds, sports, and
senior citizen activities.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m. by Chairman
Egermayer .
