CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Cooper called the Regular Meeting to order at 5:33 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Cooper, Commissioners Craig, Proulx, Rudick Stein, and
Simons
Absent: Commissioners Farley and Martyns
ANNOUNCEMENTS
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Craig, the Minutes of the regular
meeting held on June 20, 2011 and special meeting held on
August 15, 2011 were approved.
AYES: Chairperson Cooper, Commissioners Craig, Proulx, and Simons
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: Commissioner Rudick Stein
ABSENT: Commissioners Farley and Martyns
PRESENTATIONS
Commissioner Sally Lyons was recognized and thanked for her 8 years of service on
the Parks & Recreation Commission. Her last meeting was August 15, 2011.
Chris Hazeltine, Parks & Recreation Director presented her with a clock stating her
years of service 2003-2011 and the words "In appreciation of your loyal and
dedicated service".
CONSENT CALENDAR
1. AB # 0911-1 COMMISSION SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION)
To accept, approve and file the June 20, 2011 regular Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting and the August 15, 2011 special Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting Summary Reports.
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Simons AB #0911-1 oftheconsent
calendar was approved.

Simons

DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
2. AB # 0911 -2 DEPARTMENT REPORT - (ACTION)
Sue Spickard, Recreation Services Manager, reported on recently completed and
upcoming Parks and Recreation activities, and donations.
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Proulx AB #0911-2 to accept a
report from Recreation Services Manager was approved.

and Simons

3. AB # 0911-3 APPEAL OF THE DIRECTIVE TO REMOVE THREE STREET
TREES IN FRONT OF THE PROPERTY AT 3110-30 JEFFERSON STREET
- (ACTION)
The item was removed from the calendar per direction from the Assistant City
Attorney.
ACTION: None
PUBLIC COMMENT
lla Schmidt, a Carlsbad resident, spoke on her appeal of the directive to remove
three street trees in front of the property at 3110-30 Jefferson Street. She stated
that she feels she has gone through the proper process, and expressed her
disappointment that this item was removed from the calendar.
4. AB # 0911-4 COMMUNITY ACTIVITY GRANT CITIZEN REVIEW COMMITEE -
(ACTION)
Commission to appoint a Parks & Recreation Commissioner as representative to
the Community Activity Grant Citizen Review Committee.
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Rudick Stein AB #0911-4 to
appoint Matt Simons as a representative to the Community
Activity Grant Citizen Review Committee was approved.

and Simons
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: None

ADJOURNMENT
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Proulx to adjourn the Regular Meeting at
6:15 p.m. to Boards and Commissions Appreciation Event on
September 29, 201 1 at the Crossings at Carlsbad.
