CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Cooper called the Regular Meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Cooper, Commissioners Martyns, Proulx, Rudick Stein, and
Withall
Absent: Commissioners Craig and Simons
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Martyns, the Minutes of the regular
meeting held on March 19, 2012 were approved.
AYES: Chairperson Cooper, Commissioners Martyns, Proulx,
Rudick Stein, and Withall
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: None
ABSENT: Commissioners Craig and Simons
Commissioner Craig arrived at 5:31 p.m.
PRESENTATIONS
1. Steve Herrera, Recreation Supervisor, presented Sportsmanship Awards to the
following individuals:
Coaches: Kirk Cowles and Tara Anderson
Players: Ethan Meade and Dominic Roncone
These awards are given to players and coaches that display extraordinary
sportsmanship throughout the Youth Basketball Season and demonstrate the true
meaning ofthe Teaching, Respect, Unity, Sportsmanship, and Teamwork
(T.R.U.S.T) program.
2. Lisa Roop on behalf of Don Christiansen of the Carlsbad Community Gardens
Collaborative made a presentation to the Commission on community gardens and
their interest in having one public garden in each quadrant in the city.
CONSENT CALENDAR
1. AB# 0412-1 COMMISSION SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION)
To accept, approve and file the March 19, 2012 regular Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting Summary Report.
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Martyns AB #0412-1 of the consent
calendar was approved.

PUBLIC OPEN FORUM
Patrice Smerdu, a Carlsbad resident, spoke on the Community Gardens Collarborative
and their interaction with schools.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
2. AB # 0412-2 DEPARTMENT REPORT - (ACTION)
Sue Spickard, Recreation Services Manager, reported on recently completed and
upcoming Parks and Recreation activities, and donations.
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Withall AB #0412-2 to accept a report
from Recreation Services Manager was approved.
AYES: Chairperson Cooper, Commissioners Craig, Martyns, Proulx,
Rudick Stein, and Withall
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: None
ABSENT: Commission Simons
3. AB # 0412-3 REQUEST TO NAME A TREE IN MAGEE PARK IN MEMORY OF
HAROLD (MAC) V. MCSHERRY - (ACTION)
The item was continued to a date uncertain.
COMMITTEE/CITY COUNCIL REPORTS
Commissioner Rudick Stein gave an update on her recent attendance at California Parks
& Recreation Society (CPRS) conference in Long Beach. She announced that she
agreed to be a California Association of Park & Recreation Commissioner & Board
member for a three year term.
AGENDA ITEMS FOR FUTURE COMMISSION MEETING
1-5 widening project update.

ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Proulx to adjourn the Regular Meeting at
6:27 p.m.
