Is- WRITTEN COWRESPONDENCES as The Secretary read a letter from Claude J4 Fennel, addressed to Mayor Ledgerwood and the City Council, rubmitting his imediate reeignation from the Planning Cwmtfssiorro 6- ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR THE CC#ZNG YEABt It was ked by Cmm. Jarvie that election of off iccre not b% held at this time because of not having 8 full Comiseion, and that the Planning Carmisstan con- thtie in its present status with the Vice-chairman acting as Chairman until a full Canmlrsion was present. The motion died for lack of a Second0 Comm. Clitbe. rmulnated Vice-Chairman Stringer a8 Chainaan. The Vice-Chairman noninsted Cm. Netka as Chairman, Cowa, Netka declined the nomination because of the possibility of his moving from the area before the term of office would expire. Caaan, Cllrrbe moved that the nominationu be closed, Vice4tairman Stringer~as unanimously elected Chairmen, Comm, Natka nominated Cam, Zahler a8 Vlce-Chairman, Coam. The Secretary stated he would like a guide acl to the Canmfssion*s desires for study projects to place on the agendas for the cmiq year; that one project that had come ta h48 attention was the exteneion of Elm Avenue to El Cemino Real; and that if we are gains to follow the Master Plan, it might be well to at Les8t astablfsh 8 grade for center line for this extension as one of the ownera of some of this property is getting ready to subdivide, A discussion was held on this project, duritq whfch MR. KAMPTNEB stated that it would not be necessa-sy to do any field work aa the paper work coula be accom- plished from the aarfel topography maps whPcR had been made; The City Manrager stated that he would bet guided by what the Planning Commission recommended, but that he considered the extension of Tamarack Ahnue, being more to the south, was more important than Elm due to the fact that Chestnut Avenue already goes through to El Camina Real, The Chairman stated that an extension of Pi0 Pic0 from Chinquapin to the Lagoon would be a short project end would give people aecess to the swimming areac The City Manager stated he had entered into negotiations with the State for such a project, end the State is #ending a man here this week to look the situation aver; that the extension would not be open to vehicular traffic because of no parking facilities, but that the area would accommcrdate a large number of swimmersf that the ordinance states that swimning is allowed only in designated areaa, and that they were trying to work out an arraqemnt for derignating that.part of the Lagoon a8 a ewiming areao The Chairmerr stresied the ' fmportance of having the new airport road and frf3etray integchaolge within the City of Carlsbrd rather than at Ponto, and suggested that the fuade for the iwprovement of Chestnut Avenue be diverted to thSs road. The City Mauager stated that these were gas tax funds which had beea tentatively allocated to the Chestnut project, The City Manager stated that an soan as the preliminary report is received cane cerning the improvercent bd election, copies would be available far the members of the Camnission and that a meeting is scheduled at the Pine Street School OIL July 21st. In answer to a question by Comm; Jamie, the City Manager further stated that her did not know what the Council's feeliags would be toward using some of the money far the airport road if the bonds were passed, but the!
