Absent: None. Staff Merrbers Present: Sue Spickard, Senior Citizen Coordinator APPKmLoFAGENw: The Agenda was Esproved as printed. NEW BUSINESS: A. Comnissioner Gast dnated Cdssioner Hcskin for Chairperm. Conmissioner Hcskin withdrew his mne. Comnissioner Mitdell nominated Carmissioner Cochran for Chairperson. Comnissioner Cochran was unanimxlsly elected as Chairman. Comnissioner Mitchell nominated Cdssioner Ritchie for ViceChairperson and she was elected unanimsly. Election of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson B. Comnittee pppo intments Program Comnittee Comnissioner Gast was dosen for the hrogram Comnittee by unanims vote of the Comnission. In discussion, Sue Spickard stated part of her assignment is to develop new prcqram for the seniors, and the Camnissioner axld assist her with ideas and development of those program. Suggestions were made to amtact different groups to find volunteers. Cdssioner Ritchie suqgested extending the senior -ram throughout the ommunity into clubroolrs, retirement homes, or any other location where space is available for use. Chairman Cochran suggested the needs assessment survey ask whether that person would be willing to be a volunteer and also determine what prosram would be of interest. Cannissioner Gast asked for input frcm all Merrbers of the Cannission for potential program, places to hold meetings and ways to find volunteers. Cochran Gast Win Mitchell Ritchie c MINUTES .- .- I October 3, 1985 Senior Center Site Camnittee Sue Spidcard reported that Parks ti Recreation had initiated a trip all over the City to inspect potential sites for a senior center. Association has assigned one Board M&r to be on the Site Comnittee. his Comnittee will be investigating funding from all sources, including pssible grants. investigating different parcels and preparing a report for Council. The A real restate person is Carmissioners Hoskin and Mitchell were unaninrxlsly chosen to represent the Cdssion on the Senior Center Site Cdttee. C. Matters from the public There was no one present wishinq to speak. SENIOR CITIZENS ~RDINA'IOR'S REFORT: Sue Spickard gave an date of her activities to date, including the site amnittee work, flu shots (which will be available next year) and different groups to present program to the seniors. stated it was not planned to have speakers OR: program durinq the luncheon time, as that should be a social time. Mrs. Spidcard told of Christmas Craft Classes that are planned, as well as &ina painting classes and other Mica1 services that will be offered to the seniors. Mrs. Spidcard stated that the Harding Street Center will be re-painted, curtains and wallpaper will be added, as well as new cabinets installed. "here will be some new equipment purchased for the center. She mntioned there will be assistance in setting up and taking down the tables for the noon mal. She Mrs. Spidcard said she is mrkinu on public relations for the senior program and flyers will be distributed announcing new activities. Mrs. Spidcard stated her axlcern on the needs assessrent, statina there are between 10,000 and 13,000 senior citizens in this anmunity and she wants to get literature cut to all those people and have their input as to their needs. 1.
