Absent: None. Staff Member Present: Sue .*idcard, Senior citizen Coordinator No one from the audience wished to speak before the Comnission. APPROVAL OF MI"FS: The Minutes of the metins held October 3, 1985, were approved as presented. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The Aaenda was approved as printed. OLD BUSINESS: &. Cmittee Appointments Chairman Cochran announced there were three inportant Comnittee appointments to be mde as follm: Volunteer Cdttee, Public Relaticns Comnittee and Liaison to Carlsbad Senior Citizens Association. Chairman Ccchran prcposed Comnissioner Ritchie for the Volunteer COmnittee, and she was elected unanimsly. Chairman Cochran volunteered to serve m the Public Relations Camittee, and this was confirmed unanimously by the Comnission. Chairrnan Cochran proposed Conmissioner Hoskin as the Liaison to the Carlsbad Senior Citizens Association, and the Comnission rmnfirmed this choice unanimsly. Office Space Sue Spickard reported Parks & Recreation has been requested to provide office space for the Comnissioners. Cmission to indicate a specific time and day and listed the times available. Senior Center Site Connittee Comnissioners Hoskin and Kitchell qave this report, with Cmissioner Hoskin reporting first. He stated the Cdttee had met several times and had toured different sites. The Conmittee is considering location, size, access, whether City or privately md, ccst of aquisition, whether near the Redevelopnent area and the attractiveness of the site. Comnissioner Hoskin added that several questions, both legal and City policies, need to be resolved. The Comnittee has decided that the site should be at least three acres, with room for future expansion and adequate parking. The structure should be one-story, with room for expansion and ample space for all the activities. The Comnittee has rejected the idea of sharing a huildinq, since they feel the Fopulation will continue to increase, and the number of seniors will also increase, with the activities and program grcrwina in numbers. Cmissioner Mitchell amtinued the report, adding there are several sites under consideration, but it will be sane time before an actual building is available. He mncluded, stating that cut of the ten sites under consideration only two OK three are actually feasible. SFNIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR'S REFORT: Sue Spickard reported she had been workinq with the Site Cdttee and axmended them for their hard work. She reported on the health services provided at the Center this last mnth, and stated a new mailing list is being cwrpiled to inform peaple of the services available at the Center. COMMISSIONERS ' \ \\ MINUTES c November 7, 1985 Paqe 3 COMMISSIONERS Mrs. Spickard reported access cable TV 30 had taped a seqment at the Senior Center, ane this, would be aired at 6:30 p.m., Channel 30, on November 19, 1985. Mrs. Spickard announced leqal services are now under the City, and a local attorney has volunteered his services to the Seniors as of December 1, 19R5. Mrs. Spidcard stated she had hired a staff person, Helen wood, and will be hirina a Clerkmist in the future. In amclusion, Mrs. Spickard stated Carlsbad has been &men as the distribution point in North County for the Silver Pages Discounts for Seniors. The directories will be out as of May 1, 1986, and cards will be issued next week. There will be M charge for these cards for seniors over the aqe of 60. ADDITIONAL EWSINESS: Site Cannittee Repart Sue Spickard announced the date is drawing near when Council will be expectinq a report from the Site Camittee, and this camnission will be asked for a remmerdation based on that report.
