HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-01-02; Senior Commission; MinutesMINUTES Meeting of: SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION Date of Meeting: January 2, 1986 Time of Meeting: 3:OO p.m. Place of Meeting: City Council Chambers COYM ISSION ERS ’ CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Cochran at 3:OO p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners Cochran, Gast, Hoskin. Mitchell and Ritchie. Absent : None. Staff Member Present: Sue Spickard, Senior Citizen Coordinator. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the meeting held December 5, 1985, were approvec as presented. MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: Mr. Robert Collet stated his approval of the Commission anc the work they are undertaking., NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Hoskin inquired about the task of reaching the senior citizens in Carlsbad to inform them of the activities available. Chairman Cochran stated he would discuss this later in the meeting. COMMITTEE REPORTS: A. Program Committee Commissioner Gast reported on the plans for a questionnaire stating it would probably take six months for completion of the questionnaire to incorporate all phases of interest. She added that plans for the questionnaire included interes background, experience, type of employment, hobbies, etc. Commissioner Gast reported on the planned employment fair to be held March 12, 1986. She expressed the desire to visit other senior centers in the area to study their successes or failures with different programs. In answer to query about distribution of the questionnaire, Commissioner Gast stated different ways are being studied for distribution of the questionnaire. Chairman Cochran added there will be publicity for the seniors, with pictures of the Commissioners. This should help get the senior activities before the public. He recommended Commissioner Gast supply the newspapers with a copy of programs being offered. B. Senior Center Site Committee Sue Spickard announced this item vas on the Agenda to alloo the Commission the opportunity to re-affirm its support of the report to be presented to Council January 7, 1986. SENIOR CITIZEN COORDINATOR'S REPORT: Sue Spickard. Senior Citizen Coordinator, reported on the Warblers event, stating it was a success. She stated the site study is now complete and she is now working on an employment fair for the seniors in Carlsbad. Mrs. Spickari stated Pacific Bell will present a program at the Senior Center on January 14 regarding changes in telephone companies. held during the noon luncheon time. ITEMS FOR THE NEXT AGENDA: Sue Spickard requested the Commissioners think about items they would like to have on the Agenda, and call them in to her before the 15th of the month.
