HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-09-14; Senior Commission; MinutesMINUTES Meeting of: SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION Date of Meeting: September 14, 1987 Time of Meeting: 2:OO p.m. Place of Meeting: Harding Community Center COMMISSIONERS ' CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Van called the Meeting to order at 2:OO p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: Chairman Van, Commissioners Gast, Maggio and Ritchie. Absent: Commissioner Hoskin Staff Members Present: Sue Schultz Spickard Sen io r C i t i z e n Coordinator MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: None PRIORITIES FOR SENIOR CENTER: Discussion ensued between the Commissioners and staff regarding the prioritizing of space to be utilized in the new Senior Center. Staff pro- vided the priorities submitted by Commissioner Hoskin, as he could not attend the meeting today. It was decided to submit the priorities to Wolf€/ Lang/Christopher Architects in the order of phases. Phase I would be during that time that the facility would be shared with the Carlsbad Unified School District, and Phase I1 would be after the School District would vacate the building. Upon recommendations from the Commission the consensus for the development of the Senior Center was as follows: Phase I #l priorities Nutrition/Dining Hall - Seating capacity approximately 150 Kitchen - Preparation for rent- ing out the facility and should the Senior Program have to pre- pare their own meals. Offices - Coordinator (private) Clerical Vacant office(s) - for volunteer services, ie legal, health screen- ing, taxes, etc. Site Manager Other Staff It was recommended that at a minimum the Coordinator's office should be private. Other offices could be shared'if dictated by limited space. Lounge/Lobby/Library/Reception Area - possibly with a gas fireplace. Restrooms-Ample restrooms with MINUTES SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION September 14, 1987 Page 2 COMMISSIONERS \ lockers and possibly a lounge in the ladies. Storage #2 priorities in Phase I Multi- purpose Rooms - Possibly designed with moveable walls where appropriate. Crafts, Classes, Meetings, Movies, Cards and etc. #3 priorities in Phase I Pool Room-Two tables initially with the potential for four. #4 priority in Phase I Phase I1 Auditorium With an adequate stage lighting, and a balance P.A. Utilized for dances, exercise classes, large meet- ings, and etc. if not available in Phase I Auditorium Adult Social Day Care -To be utilized for the purposes of providing Day Care Services for the more frail seni0.r Citizen, and respite for their caregivers.
