The idea will be shared with Vista to see whether more variety can be offered. Have a patio sale to raise money for the Center. A white elephanvcraft sale is held at the Center at least annually. Leave the same table empty every day. This is an experiment at the present time, and would not be fair to close the same table every day. The Project Council will review this approach and make a recommendation. Entire tables are being saved. Please bring this to the attention of a staff member so it can be addressed immediately. Turn up the heat. The heat/air conditioning system has never operated correctly. There is a broken sensor at the present time, with no date for the arrival of the new part. The total home meals delivered in May was 855, with an average donation of $2.49. Commissioner Chmiel reported on the District 5 Project Council report and stated the District 5 meeting will be August 5, 1993, at 1O:OO a.m., in Vista. Sunshine Committee activities were reported and dance attendance. There will be a 'Bring a Guest' Contest in August. The drop in attendance at lunches at various Senior Centers was discussed. In June, 2,906 meals were served, with an average donation of $1.42. Home meals delivered in June totalled 952, with an average donation of $2.42. The current Project Council balance is $2,835.81. These funds are raised from dances, bake sales, etc. Sunshine activities were reported and there will no longer be a report on Decorations. The dance in June was attended by 89 seniors, and there was a discussion about having a luau in August. Sue Spickard welcomed new members and explained the purpose of the Council and the responsibilities to the Nutrition Program. There was a discussion to promote dining room attendance, a 'Bring a Guest' contest, and to work with Daniels lV to get a monthly program. SENIOR COORDINATOR'S REPORT: Sue Spickard reported that there has been difficulty in filling the dining room at lunch time. There used to be a waiting list, and now there are not enough reservations to fill the dining room. Staff now sets up for reservations only. She stated the 'Bring a Guest' contest is being held at this time. On July 2, a BBQ was held at the Center, and 275 people attended. It was a western theme and the volunteers worked very hard to make it a success. Ms. Spickard reported there will be a luau on August 18, with entertainment by hula dancers (if staff can find some who do not want to be paid a large amount of money). It is hoped that at least 250 people will attend the luau. August 5, 1993 SENIOR COMMISSION Page 4 SENIOR COORDINATOR’S REPORT (Continued) The ice cream social in Magee Park July 11 was a huge success, thanks to the many volunteers and the Golden Tones band. Ms. Spickard reported on trips and classes that are planned for the coming months. Ms. Spickard stated that there is an issue about the art hanging on the walls of the Art Room. One group has dominated hanging their art work on the walls, to the exclusion of the other groups. The other groups have now expressed their interest in displaying their work. She stated that the policy this Commission wrote and approved was that rotation of art work would occur among the groups using the Art Room. Staff plans to meet with the leaders of the different groups to work out a fair system as to how this rotation can be accomplished. The Gerico’s Golf Tournament is the largest fund raising event each year, and it will be held on Saturday, September 18, 1993. Ms. Spickard asked for help from anyone who would like to volunteer to get prizes for the tournament and the raffle. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Vice Chairman Whmaker thanked the Commissioners for all the work they do. ITEMS FOR NEXT AGENDA: Commissioners should contact Sue Spickard with any items for the agenda. ADJOURNMENT: By proper motion, the Regular Meeting of August 5, 1993, was adjourned at 1 :45 p.m. Minutes Clerk
