MEETING OF: SENIOR COMMISSION

CARLSBAD SENIOR CENTER
CALL TO ORDER:
Commissioner Whittaker called the Meeting to order at 1 :15 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by Sue Spickard, as follows:
Present: Commissioners Chmiel, Serrin, West, Whittaker and Zink.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was led by Chairperson Whittaker.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
ACTION: On motion by Chairman Whittaker, Minutes of the Regular Meeting
held July 2, 1998, were unanimously approved as presented.
MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC
Dr. Albert Russo, 401 1 Crescent Point Road. Carlsbad, addressed Commissioners
requesting that a soda vending machine be placed at the Center. The item was placed on
the next Commission agenda for discussion and action.
Patricia Dresselhaus, 2359 Pi0 Pic0 Drive, Carlsbad, requested that space be made
available at the Center for Seniors to have computer hands-on time. Sue Spickard, Senior
Center Coordinator, advised that by the end of September four computers with printers will
be in operation in the Support Services room at the Center for Seniors to schedule hands-
on time. The item will be placed on the next Commission agenda to update Commissioners
on the Computer Lab.

ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Zink, Commission unanimously affirmed

SENlOR HOUSING - Item #8
ACTION On motion by Commissioner Serrin, Commission unanimously voted to have
Chairman Whittaker draft a letter for Commissioner signatures asking the
Carlsbad City Council to take a look at "age restricted, self-owned housing
for Seniors" in Carlsbad.
