MEETING OF: SENIOR COMMISSION
DATE OF MEETING: October 2, 2003
TIME OF MEETING: 1:15 p.m.
PLACE OF MEETING: CARLSBAD SENIOR CENTER
CALL TO ORDER - Commissioner Wood called the meeting to order at 1:15 p.m.
ROLL CALL - Taken by Commissioner Wood as follows:
Present: Commissioners Savary, West and Wood.
Absent: Weber, Serrin
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Led by Commissioner Savary.
CONSENT CALENDAR
Action: Commission unanimously accepted Consent Calendar.
MANAGER'S REPORT
Lori Swenck and the Senior Commissioner's thanked Sharon McAnally and staff for an
outstanding job putting together the Senior & Family Information Health Fair. The fair
was a great success over 54 vendors participated. The Lancer Dancers and the Senior
Center's Hawaiian dancers performed. BBQ hamburgers and refreshments were
served for a nominal price of $3.00.
NUTRITION COORDINATOR
Sharon McAnally reported the new caterer is doing a good job. The majority of the
seniors are happy with the new caterer.
There will be two dances in October at the Center. Saturday, October 18 from
7:00-9:30 p.m. Line Dancing and on Thursday, October 30, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Harvest Ball & Costume Party. Admission is $3.50 both dances will have
live entertainment and refreshments included in the admission price.
WORKSHOP
A workshop was held on Monday, September 8, to continue discussion on how to best
utilize the proposed vacated school district space. Commission and Recreation staff
had an opportunity to walk-through the premises and physically see the space.
CARLSBAD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT VACATED PREMISES
Motion was made to approve the drawing of the vacated premises of the C.U.S.D.
downstairs office space for the pending expansion of the Center; subject to the square
footage presented.
PATIO FURNITURE REPLACEMENT
The patio is still under construction. The Commission recommends replacing the old
patio furniture. Commission asked staff to follow-up with Scott Bradstreet, Park
Planner to see if he might have a vendor to contact.
