Date of Meeting September 7, 2006 Place of Meeting: Senior Center CALL TO ORDER Chairperson O'Connell called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Surridge and Savary Absent: None PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Vice Chairperson Nelson. ANNOUNCEMENTS None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES ACTION: On motion by Vice Chairperson Nelson, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held on July 6, 2006 were approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None PRESENTATIONS None. APPROVAL OF AGENDA ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Savary, the Agenda for September 7, 2006 was approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None CONSENT CALENDAR 1. AB #0906-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION) By a 5-0 vote Commission received, accepted and approved the Summary Report of the September 7, 2006 Senior Commission meeting. 2. AB #0906-2 RECEIPT OF DONATION - (ACTION) Received donations of $200.00 in cash and $576.00 in-kind products and services to support Senior Center programs. 3. AB #0906-3 COMMISSION APPOINTMENT TO THE COMMUNITY ACTIVITY GRANT CITIZEN REVIEW COMMITTEE (ACTION) The Commission appointed Joan Surridge as a representative to the committee. Senior Commission Meeting September 7, 2006 Page 2 DEPARTMENT REPORTS None. COMMISSIONER/STAFF REPORTS Vice Chairperson Nelson updated the Commission on the Full Access & Coordinated Transportation (FACT) steering committee meeting held on August 18, 2006. Lynn recapped the Senior Center's summer events and spoke about future fall events. The Senior Safari trip to Las Vegas was sold out and CynthiaTorrie, excursion leader reported everyone had a good time. The 20th Annual KoKo Beach Restaurant Fundraiser for the Senior Center is here once again. Tickets are $5.00 and receive $5.00 off any lunch or dinner at KoKo Beach throughout the month of October. There will be a drawing of prizes on October 26, 2006 held in the dining room at noon. Proceeds will benefit the Senior Center programs and activities. Lynn said the Center was closed for two days in August for termite tenting but did not compromise the lunch program. Staff setup lunch at Pine Park and served the senior's lunch outside picnic style. The Center now has a battery recycling bin where senior's can deposit their old batteries. Risley reported a record breaking turn out on September 1st. They served 146 people who came to enjoy an outdoor BBQ served in either the dining room or the patio. Risley advised the Commission that elections for a new Nutrition Council is in process.
