Date of Meeting February 1, 2007 Place of Meeting: Senior Center CALL TO ORDER Chairperson O'Connell called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, and Savary Absent: Surridge PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Commissioner Nelson. ANNOUNCEMENTS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Nelson, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held on November 2, 2006 were approved. AYES: Nelson, O'Connell and Savary NOES: None ABSTAIN: Hopkins ABSENT: Surridge PRESENTATIONS Recreation Director, Ken Price provided a presentation on the Recreation Department 2006-2009 Strategic Plan. APPROVAL OF AGENDA ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Nelson, the Agenda for February 1, 2007 was approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell and Savary NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: Surridge CONSENT CALENDAR 1. AB #0207-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION) By a 4-0 vote Commission received, accepted and approved the Summary Report of the November 2, 2006 Senior Commission Meeting. 2. AB #0207-2 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION - KoKo BEACH Receive a donation in the amount of $1620 from KoKo Beach restaurant. Senior Commission Meeting February 1, 2007 Page 2 3. AB# 0207-3 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION- CARLSBAD BRIDGE GROUP Accept a donation in the amount of $500 from the Carlsbad Bridge Group. 4. AB#0207-4 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION - THAIS JEAN LEAVITT Receive a donation of $75 from Thais Jean Leavitt. DEPARTMENT REPORTS None COMMISSIONER/STAFF REPORTS 1. Chairman O'Connell updated the Commission on the letter of recognition for Senior Center staff. The letter has been sent to the Mayor's office and Chairman O'Connell will follow up with Marilyn Strong, secretary to the Mayor and City Council. 2. Lynn highlighted some of the upcoming events and new activities. Soccer Golf is a new activity for seniors played on the grass at Pine Park. The game is a combination of miniature golf and soccer. Ballroom dancing lessons have been added to the list of new activities. Lessons are on the 3rd Thursday of the month. On Friday, February 16th the annual Volunteer Recognition dinner will be held at the Olympic Resort Hotel. 3. Risley reported 175 lunches were served for the Congregate Holiday lunch in December. This was the largest attendance in his tenure as supervisor. Participation in the Congregate program is on the rise and he anticipates a continuing trend.
