Date of Meeting June 7, 2007 Place of Meeting: Senior Center CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge Absent: None PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Commissioner Surridge. PRESENTATIONS None ANNOUNCEMENTS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held on May 3, 2007 were approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None APPROVAL OF AGENDA ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Agenda for June 7, 2007 was approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None CONSENT CALENDAR The consent calendar was unanimously approved (5-0). 1. AB #0607-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION) To accept, approve and file the May 3, 2007 Senior Commission Meeting Summary Report. 2. AB #0607-2 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION- MARIE DONOVAN (ACTON) To accept a donation of $50 from Marie Donovan and recommend acceptance by the City Manager. 3. AB #0607-3 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION - MARI POUF (ACTION) To accept a donation of $25 from Mari Pouf and recommend acceptance by the City Manager. Senior Commission Meeting June 7, 2007 Page 2 DEPARTMENT REPORTS None 4. AB #0607-4 CHANGING ORDER OF SENIOR COMMISSION AGENDA (ACTION) Approved moving the Public Contact Item on the Agenda to after the Approval of Agenda and increasing Public Comment time from three minutes to five minutes on the Agenda Public Comment Notice. 5. AB #0607-5 SENIOR EXPANSION GRAND OPENING SUGGESTIONS (INFORMATION) Commission discussed and made suggestions for the Senior Expansion Grand Opening. An idea was discussed to have on display a list of volunteers and donors who have contributed to the Senior Center. Chairperson Nelson suggested and Commission concurred to invite and acknowledge the contributions of the first Senior Center Manager and former Senior Commissioners. COMMISSION/STAFF REPORT 1. Gail Lynn updated the Commission on the Senior Center recreation and social services programs. Among the highlights for May was the National Senior Health and Fitness Day one mile walk. Over 40 senior's participated in the walk. In addition, Choraleers performed their annual spring concert to a welcoming audience in the auditorium. Senior Safari excursion on May 10, 2007 headed to Catalina Island and almost had to turn back due to a fire that was encroaching upon the center of town. The highly anticipated summer fashion showed was held on June 14th to rave reviews. The models were residents of Carlsbad modeling clothes provided by Martin & Company. Tickets were $10.00 and all proceeds went to benefit the Nutrition Council Program. 2. Jack Risley reported the annual A.I.S. audit was approved with no corrections. Risley said in the month of May the average meals served in the dining room was over 95 per day. In celebration of Mother's Day and Father's Day, special meals were prepared by the Congregate caterer. Home Meal recipients also received special meals and flowers along with hand painted place mats and cards courtesy of the CIT's (Citizens in Training).
