Date of Meeting September 6, 2007 Place of Meeting: Senior Center CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge Absent: None PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Commissioner O'Connell. PRESENTATIONS None ANNOUNCEMENTS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting held on June 7, 2007 were approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None APPROVAL OF AGENDA ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Agenda for September 6, 2007 was approved. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None CONSENT CALENDAR The consent calendar was unanimously approved (5-0). 1. AB #1007-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION) To accept, approve and file the September 6, 2007 Senior Commission Meeting Summary Report. 2. AB #1007-2 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION-PAULINE & NEVILLE THACKER - (ACTION) To accept a donation of $50 from Pauline & Neville Thacker and recommend acceptance by the City Manager. AB #1007-3 REPORT ON 2007 HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO & HOT RODS & COOL TREATS - (INFORMATION) Rachael Shay, Recreation Supervisor, Special Events reported on the 2007 Health & Fitness Expo and Hot Rods & Cool Treats events held in July. Shay said there were over 60 vendors participating in the Health & Fitness Expo. Hot Rods & Cool Treats event was well received by the local neighborhood and Carlsbad residents. The event raised $1,355.00 to help support the Senior Center programs and activities. DEPARTMENT REPORTS None COMMISSION/STAFF REPORT 1. Chairperson Nelson attended a meeting with the Parks and Recreation Commission to discuss ideas of collaboration regarding amenities and activities for seniors in new and existing park facilities. 2. Gail Lynn updated the Commission on the Senior Center recreation and social services programs. Among the highlights for August was a Senior Safari trip to Laguna Beach to see the Pageant of the Masters and a "Gondola Get Away" trip to Long Beach. Two seminars were held in August on Medicare Part D and Pain Management. Both seminars were well attended. In the auditorium, Billy Harper Band played to over 70 seniors for the monthly tea room dance. 3. Jack Risley reported for the month of August that he served over 2,349 meals in the dining room, over 102 meals served per day. In celebration of Labor Day a special meal of grilled steak and garlic roasted potatoes were served to a sell-out crowd.
