HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-05-07; Senior Commission; MinutesMINUTES MEETING OF: Senior Commission DATE OF MEETING: May 7, 2009 TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m. PLACE OF MEETING: Senior Center CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner O'Connell called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL was taken by the Secretary as follows: Present: Hopkins, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge Absent: Nelson PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner O'Connell led the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, the Minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved with a correction that Surridge and Savary did not dissent but abstained since neither Commissioner attended the December 4, 2008 Commission meeting. Minutes of the Regular Meeting held February 5, 2009. CONSENT CALENDAR: 1. AGENDA ITEM 0509-1 Summary Report of February 5. 2009 ACTION: On a motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission unanimously accepted the February 5, 2009 Summary Report. AYES: Hopkins, Savary, Surridge and O'Connell NOES: None ABSENT: Nelson 2. AGENDA ITEM# 0509-2 Acceptance of Donation ACTION: On a motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission unanimously accepted a donation of $100.00 from Clay Northcote. AYES: Hopkins, Savary, Surridge and O'Connell NOES: None ABSENT: Nelson May 7, 2009 Senior Commission Meeting Page 2 3. AGENDA ITEM# 0509-3 REVIEW AND APPROVE SENIOR CENTER GUIDELINES ACTION: On a motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission unanimously approved revisions to Guidelines for Senior Center Activities and Guidelines for the Utilization of the Carlsbad Senior. AYES: Hopkins, Savary, Surridge and O'Connell NOES: None ABSENT: Nelson COMMITTEE/DIRECTOR REPORTS: 4. Manager's Report - "Meet the Pharmacist" on April 24th was a great success. The event included prescriptions reviewed by a pharmacist to explain the different types of medications and how they interact with each other. The event also had health screenings, seminars and a vendor faire. Lynn provided an update on the May activities at the Senior Center. Lynn told the Commission on May 12, 2009 Council Member Keith Blackburn will be presenting a donation to the Senior Center in the dining room just before lunch time. 5. Nutrition Report - Jack Risley provided statistics on the number of seniors participating in the Congregate lunch, Home Meal and transportation programs. The Center is providing a Special Mother's Day lunch in the dining room and for homebound mothers. Risley reported on a new staff member who will now be in charge of kitchen services. His resume is extensive in the restaurant industry. Risley also mentioned the old stove has been replaced with a new 6 burner 36" griddle convection oven.
