HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-06-04; Senior Commission; MinutesMINUTES MEETING OF: Senior Commission DATE OF MEETING: June 4, 2009 TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m. PLACE OF MEETING: Senior Center CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows: Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge Absent: None PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Hopkins led the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved except for one abstention. Minutes of the Regular Meeting held May 7, 2009. CONSENT CALENDAR: 1. AGENDA ITEM 0609-1 SUMMARY REPORT ACTION: On a motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission unanimously accepted May 7, 2009 Summary Report. AYES: Hopkins, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSTAIN: Nelson 2. AGENDA ITEM# 0609-2 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION ACTION: On a motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission unanimously recommended that the City Council accept a donation from Keith Blackburn. AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge NOES: None ABSENT: None 3. AGENDA ITEM# 0609-3 CORE SERVICES. RESOURCE ALLOCATION. COST RECOVERY AND PRICING GUIDELINES Recreation Services Manager, Mick Calarco, made a PowerPoint presentation to the Commission on the Parks and Recreation Department Core Services Assessment, Cost Recovery model and Pricing Guidelines. June 4, 2009 Senior Commission Meeting Page 2 4. AGENDA ITEM# 0609-4 CITY WEBSITE UPDATE Community Coordinator, Craddock Stropes updated the Commission on the new City Website that will be introduced this summer. COMMITTEE/DIRECTOR REPORTS: 5. Manager' Report - Gail Lynn reported the Senior Center held their third annual 1 mile walk in celebration of National Senior Health & Fitness Day. Over 1,000 local sites across the United States participated in this event. The Center is adding another health screening service for seniors. On the first Wednesday of each month hearing screenings will be offered. Lynn updated the Commission on activities for the month of July. 6. Nutrition Report - Jack Risley provided statistics on the number of seniors participating in the congregate lunch, home meals and transportation programs. Andrew Galvin, Kitchen Coordinator will barbeque hamburgers for the congregate lunch crowd on July 2nd to help celebrate the 4 of July. Cowboy Jack will entertain in the dining room during lunch. Risley reported Activities Director, Teresa Dunn will be retiring at the end of June. Teresa is in the process of training her replacement Valerie Fisher. Teresa has done a wonderful job and will be missed by staff and seniors. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: 1. Thank you to the outgoing Nutrition Council.
