Spickard talked about the new donations format and other minor changes in the procedures. Through the City's Vehicle Replacement Program the Center has a new 21 passenger bus. The new bus has double hand railing, easier stair access and a PA system. The new 8 passenger van with a lift was also approved and has been in operation for two months. There are two workshops for "Baby Boomers" in September; "The Sandwich Dilemma," September 15, 2009, and "Care Giving and Preparing for the Inevitable," September 23, 2009. During budget preparation for fiscal year 09-10 staff was requested to identify programs/services that could be cut or outsourced in an effort to save money. The Senior Safari program was one of the programs that staff felt could be outsourced. Staff is currently investigating options to make this service available to interested seniors, however, not directly through the Senior Center. The Ice Cream Social will be held on Thursday, September 17th. This year it will be held during the week from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Besides ice cream there will be hot dogs, hamburgers and popcorn. Jack Risley will send out flyers to the local residents who might want to participate. The Ice Cream Social will be held at Pine Park. Entertainers will be performing at Pine Park amphitheatre. Recreation Supervisor, Jack Risley reported in August based on 21 serving days, the average meals served were 107. Home Meals served an average of 30. Risley pointed out there has been an increase in Home Meal deliveries. Emergency kits were distributed to Home Meal and Congregate participants. Emergency kits provide seniors with meals for 7 days in case of a disaster or emergency situation. The new Activities Coordinator, Valerie Fisher is doing a great job. Seniors have taken an immediate liking to her. One way she is working with the seniors is inviting them to vote on what movie to select for the month. Since Valerie has encouraged participation in the selection process, she has seen an increase in attendance at the monthly movie.
