MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: December 3, 2009

CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
Absent: None
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Hopkins led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner Savary, the Minutes of the previous
meeting were unanimously approved.
Minutes of the Regular Meeting held November 5, 2009.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AGENDA ITEM 1209-1 SUMMARY REPORT OF NOVEMBER 5. 2009
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Savary, Commission
unanimously accepted the November 5, 2009 Summary Report.
AYES: Nelson, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
ABSTAIN: Hopkins and O'Connell
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2- AGENDA ITEM 1209-2 SENIOR CENTER REPORT
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission
unanimously accepted the December 3, 2009 Senior Center Report.

3. AGENDA ITEM 1209-3 VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DINNER
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission unanimously
accepted staff's suggestion to hold the Volunteer Recognition Event at the
Senior Center.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE
ACTION: Commissioner Surridge was selected to serve on the 2009 Community
Development block Grant/Home Advisory Committee.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
On December 4, 2009 the annual Parks & Recreation holiday gathering will be at Leo Carrillo
starting at 6:00 p.m.
The Senior Center is celebrating its 20 year anniversary on December 7, 2009. Council
members and Senior Commissioners have been invited to have lunch and celebrate 20 years
of the Centers existence.
COMMISSIONER/STAFF REPORTS
Gail Lynn, Recreation Area Manager updated the Commission on the ongoing activities and
upcoming events. Effective January 4, 2010, Mr. John Coates will assume the Parks &
Recreation Director position. Previously, Mr. Coates was the Director of Community Services
for the City of Santee.
Recreation Supervisor, Jack Risley reported in November 113 Congregate meals were served
on a daily average based on 18 serving days. A daily average of 30 Home Meals were
delivered. The day before Thanksgiving 175 meals were served in the dining room and 38
home meals served by volunteers on Thanksgiving Day.
