MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: May 6, 2010
TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m.
PLACE OF MEETING: Senior Center
CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Hopkins
Absent: Surridge
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Hopkins led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Due to the lack of a quorum of Commissioners present at the
April 1, 2010 Commission Meeting, the Minutes will be submitted for approval at the next
Senior Commission Meeting.
CONSENT CALENDAR: Due to the lack of a quorum of Commissioners present at the
April 1, 2010 Commission Meeting, the Consent Calendar will be submitted for approval at the
next Senior Commission Meeting.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AGENDA ITEM 0510-2 CA STATE SENIOR OLYMPICS PICKLEBALL
Received a presentation from Carlsbad residents Pat Carroll and Cathy Brendel.
The City of Carlsbad will host the California State Senior Olympics Pickleball
tournament at Poinsettia Park, June 1-4, 2010 for men and women ages 50 years
and over. 200 players are anticipated to play in the senior tournament.
3. AGENDA ITEM 0510-3 SENIOR CENTER REPORT
In the absence of Gail Lynn, Sue Spickard, Recreation Services Manager,
updated the Commission on the ongoing activities and upcoming events. Jack
Risley, Recreation Supervisor, reported that for the month of April, 114 Congregate
meals were served on a daily average based on 23 serving days and a daily
average of 31 Home Meals were delivered based on 28 serving days. A Spring
Brunch was served to 130 Congregate diners and a harpist serenaded them while
they dined. Another lunch special served in April was Leg of Lamb.
