MEETING OF: Senior Commission

CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Tweedy called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL was by the secretary as follows:
Present: Nelson, Pearson, Savary, Surridge and Tweedy
Absent: None
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Savary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Accepted and approved the July 12, 2012 and
October 11, 2012 minutes.

1. AGENDA ITEM #1112-1 SUMMARY REPORT (ACTION)
Approved the July 12, 2012 and October 11, 2012 summary.

2. AGENDA ITEM #1112-2 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT ADVISORY
COMMITTEE (ACTION)
Commissioners unanimously elected Chairperson Tweedy to serve on the Community
Development Block Grant Advisory Committee.

3. AGENDA ITEM #1112-3 HEALTH SCREENING (INFORMATION)
Staff reported the estimated cost for providing cholesterol and glucose testing is
approximately $7.00 per person. This figure was given to staff by the North County Health
Services. Staff is researching what the insurance and the initial setup cost would be.
Three former nurses have offered to volunteer to help in the testing procedure.

Commission unanimously voted to change the day and time to the fourth Thursday
of each month at 3:00 p.m.

5. AGENDA ITEM #1112-5 SENIOR CENTER REPORT(INFORMATION)
Recreation Services Manager, Sue Spickard gave an update on the current and
upcoming events at the center.
Halloween was celebrated in the dining room. Many seniors participated in dressing
up for Halloween. Prizes were awarded for the top three costumes.
Rancho Carlsbad, a senior mobile home park, hosts an annual fair at their park.
One of our drivers arranged to speak at their event and gave out information. He
felt that he was well received and believes we will be seeing some new participants
from Rancho Carlsbad.
Parks & Recreation Commission Holiday Social at Leo Carrillo Historic Ranch will be
November 30, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

By proper motion, the Regular Meeting of November 8, 2012 was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
