MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: September 30, 2013

CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Tweedy called the Special Commission Meeting to order at
3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Nelson, Pearson, Savary and Tweedy
Absent: Surridge
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Pearson
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commission accepted and approved the July 25, 2013 minutes.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AGENDA ITEM # 0913-1 SUMMARY REPORT (ACTION)
Accepted, approved and filed the July 25, 2013 Senior Commission meeting summary
report.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AGENDA ITEM # 0913-2 NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND COMPREHENSIVE ACTION PLAN
(ACTION)
Commission accepted presentation of the Needs Assessment and Comprehensive plan
report as presented to the Senior Commission.
Trudy Stapleton and Ken Pace, both Carlsbad residents, addressed the Commission
regarding their interest in Pickelball courts in Carlsbad.
Doren Curtiss, a Carlsbad resident, spoke regarding the completion of the tennis courts
and community center at Poinsettia Park.
3. AGENDA ITEM # 0913-3 INTERGENERATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES (INFORMATION)
Kevin Granse, Recreation Area Manager, presented information regarding current
intergenerational activities at the Carlsbad Senior Center. Commission asked staff to start
a conversation with the school district for potential intergenerational programs to include
seniors and the teens.

4. AGENDA ITEM # 0913-4 SENIOR CENTER REPORT (INFORMATION)
Kevin Granse, Recreation Area Manager, gave an oral report on the ongoing activities and
upcoming events.
Pearson requested that staff present annual statistics of classes, programs, and activities
for a reference of comparison of these ongoing events.
