MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: March 27, 2014

CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Pearson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Pearson, Min and Sachs
Absent: Nelson and Tweedy
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Sachs
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: By proper motion, the minutes ofthe Senior Commission
meeting of February 27, 2014 were approved and the December 4, 2013 meeting has
been postponed due to a lack of a quorum of commissioners at that meeting.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AB # 0314-1 SUMMARY REPORT (ACTION)
Accepted, approved and filed the February 27, 2014 Senior Commission meeting summary
report and postponed the December 4, 2013 summary report due to a lack of a quorum of
commissioners at that meeting.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AB # 0314-2 PRESENTATION OF GENERAL PLAN UPDATE (INFORMATION)
Commission received a presentation from the Community and Economic Development
staff regarding updates to the City of Carlsbad General Plan report.
3. AB # 0314-3 PHARMACEUTICAL DROP BOX (INFORMATION)
Commission discussed the pharmaceutical drop box program located at the City of
Carlsbad Safety Center. Commission will continue further discussion on this subject to
think of different ways to make the public more aware of the pharmaceutical drop box.
Suggestions were made; when giving informational seminars at the center, have the
doctors include information about the drop box. Publicize the drop box in our newsletter
and social media. This drop box is important not just for seniors but for the whole
community at large.

4. AB # 0314-4 SPECIAL REVENUE FUND FOR SENIOR PROGRAMS (INFORMATION)
Commission received information regarding the special revenue fund for seniors programs
including the manner in which funds are invested.
5. AB # 0314-5 SENIOR CENTER REPORT (INFORMATION)
Kevin Granse, Recreation Area Manager, gave an oral report on the ongoing activities and
upcoming events.
