HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-06-06; Senior Commission; MinutesMINUTES MEETING OF: DATE OF MEETING: Senior Commission June 6, 2019 TIME oi; MEETING: 3:00 p.m. PLACE OF MEETING: City Council Chambers CALL TO ORDER: Chair Rodenhausen called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. ROLL CALL: Minutes Clerk, Char Buckalew took roll call: Present: Chair Rodenhausen, Vice Chair Sachs, Commissioners Pearson, Mehan and Tweedy. Absent: None PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Mehan led the Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chair Rodenhausen requested a motion to approve the minutes of the May 2, 2019 Senior Commission meeting. ACTION: . AYES: NOES: ABSTAIN: ABSENT: Motion by Commissioner Pearson and duly seconded by Commissioner Mehan to apprnve the minutes of the regular meeting of May 2, 2019 was approved . Chair Rodenhausen, Commissioners Pearson, Mehan and Tweedy None None None CONSENT CALENDAR: None NEW BUSINESS: 1. SR# 0619-2 SENIOR COMMISSION MEETING CALENDAR Chair Rodenhausen, requested the Commission consider and adopt the new Fiscal Year Calendar for 2019/2020 Senior Commission Meetings as proposed. ACTION: On motion by Vice Chair Sachs, second by Commissioner Mehan SR # 0618-1 was approved. SR# 0619-2 SENIOR COMMISSION WORK PLAN Recreation Area Manager Margaret Hamer facilitated the development and amending of work plan for the Senior Commission. I. Mission Statement City of Carlsbad Senior Commission Work Plan Fiscal Year 2019-2020 DRAFT The Mission of the Senior Commission is to champion an age-inclusive environment that promotes wellness, vitality and education that leads to a vibrant quality of life. II. Composition The senior commission shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the city council. Members shall serve four-year terms. Ill. FY 2019-2020 Goals & Tasks 1. Determine the needs of Adults 50+. a. Needs Assessment/Master Plan b. Formal annual assessment and feedback loop c. Informal feedback from staff and volunteers throughout the year 2. Support the City of Carlsbad Age-Friendly initiative. a. Promote with City of Carlsbad communication tools b. Align with internal and external organizations 3. Create Adult 50+ opportunities and collaborations beyond the Senior Center. a. Public sites to include parks, community centers and libraries b. Private locations such as theaters and senior communities c. Educate through universities, hospitals, nonprofits and other organizations, utilizing technology tools 4. Increase social inclusion, enhance connectivity and minimize isolation. a. Foster technology friendly experiences b. Offer intergenerational programs c. Increase transportation to senior services d. SR# 0619-3 DEPARTMENT REPORT Department Report will be tabled until the next Senior Commission Meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS: None PUBLIC COMMENTS: Mary Lucid, Oceanside resident spoke regarding programs and facilities offered by the Senior Center.
