Minutes of: i'RAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION Date of Meeting: Monday, May 7, 1973 Place of Meeting: City Manager's Conference Room Present: Chairman Bill Harkins, Bob Nelson, Kent Whitson, Manny Puentes, Hunter Cook, Capt. Wally Rossall Ahsent: Moe Sims, Chief Ralph Laughlin, Col. A1 Wood, City Manager Jack Arnold 1. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the April 2, 1973 meeting were approved as submitted. 2. Street name change - Palomar Airport Road The Commission recommended against changing the name of Palomar Airport Road at this time. However, the Commission will consider a street name change of the above street if the name of the airport itself changes. The Commission did recommend that the County of San Diego change that section of Encinitas Road between Linda Vista Drive and Rancho Santa Fe Road to Palomar Airport Road. 3. Discussion of Speed Zoning A speed zoning poll was given to the Commission members present at the meeting and an informal discussion followed. A manual entitled "Realisti Speed Zoning - Why and HOW" was then distributed to each member. Those members who were not present at the meeting are to fill out the enclosed poll and bring it to the next Commission meeting. 4. Temporary Street Closure - Playa Road The Commission approved the closure of Playa Road in the La Costa area for the purpose of holding a street dance and neighborhood party on Wednesday, July 4, 1973. However, this approval is only under the condition that there is also approval from the City Public Works Dept., the Police Dept., and the Fire Dept. 5. No Parkina on Carlsbad Blvd- The Commission recommended that a "NO Parking" zone be established on the west side of Carlsbad Blvd. from Pine Ave. southerly for a distance of 340 feet, and on the west side of Carlsbad Blvd. from Maple Ave. northerly for a distance of 100 feet. 6.
