Present: Chairman Bob Nelson, Mike Riley, Guy Moore, Capt. Wally Rossall, Manny Puentes, Rent Whitson Absent: Bill Harkins Guest: Col. W. C. Atkinson 1. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the August 3, 1976 meeting were approved as submitted. 2. Request for stop control at Jefferson StreetdChinquapin Avenue The Commission felt that the existing yield sign was functioning well but recommended that the intersection again be reviewed once sidewalks are installed in the area. 3. Request for yield control at Marina Drive and Park Drive The Commission recommended that, due to the geometrics of the above intersection, a yield sign be installed on Marina Drive. 4. Crosswalk conditions on Carlsbad Boulevard in front of the Army-Navy Academy After reviewing the situation in the field, the Commission decided that the existing signing and pavement markings were adequate. However, the Commission did recommend that the cross-hatch lines within the crosswalk be widened from one foot to two feet each to help improve the motorist's visibility of the crosswalk. The Commission also suggested that the Army and Navy Academy reinstall the overhead light that was located directly east of the crosswalk near the athletic field. ,- A Traffic Safety Commission October 5, 1976 2 5. Request for stop control at Trieste Drive and Porta Place The Commission recommended against installing any stop signs to control speeds, Unjustified stop signs usually result in an increase of accidents and unnecessary delay. The Commission will review these streets once the neighbor- hood is further developed and traffic patterns are established. 6. No parking along Carlsbad Boulevard between Aqua Hedionda Bridge and Cannon Road The Commission recommended that a no parking zone be established on the east side of Carlsbad Boulevard from Cannon Road northerly for a distance to provide adequate sight distance. The Commission recommended against es- tablishing any other no parking zones at this time but would want to again review the above section of Carlsbad Boulevard once the future street improvements are made. n both sides of Palomar The Commission recommended against expanding the existing no parking limits or restricting the parking to certain days but did recommend that additional signs be added to fill the voids between the existing signs.
