Wally Rossall, Kent Whitson Absent: None Subject: Additional Traffic Control for the Intersection of Palomar Airport Road and Paseo del Norte At a previous meeting, the Traffic Safety Commission had recommended that certain geometric changes (berms, islands, closing certain business driveways) be made in order to move the northbound stop bar on Paseo del Norte as far to the north as possible to help improve the sight distance and decrease motorists' crossing time at the intersection. Because of the rapidly increasing traffic volumes at the intersection and the numerous problems in implementing the Com- mission's original recommendations, the Commission called a special meeting and a field trip to discuss their concerns, and modified their recommendations for safety improvements as fol- lows : 1. Transition the eastbound traffic on Palomar Airport Road as far to the south as possible in order to facilitate a continuous raised median on Palomar Airport Road from the northbound-to-westbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to the intersec- tion of Paseo del Norte. 2. ramp (both Item Nos. 1 and 2 will have to be coordinated with CalTrans) . Due to the urgency of the situation, the Commission recom- mended that Council make funds available as soon as possible to Traffic Safety Commission -2- September 12, 1977 incorporate the foregoing improvements.
