Wally Rossall, Kent Whitson, Tim Flanagan Absent: Chairman Mike Ri ley, Bit I Baldwin Guests: Barbara Otwel I, Richard Forrey, Gus Scurlock, John Gray, Morris Kaufman, G. VanLeersum, J. B. Hassan I. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the November 7, 1977 meeting were approved as submitted. 2. Four-way "STOP" Control at Chestnut Avenue and Trieste Drive Since none of the warrants for four-way "STOP" control were met, the Commission recommended against establishing the additional "STOP" con- trol at this time. Because the vertical curve on Chestnut Avenue re- stricts sight distance, the commission recommended that advanced inter- sectional warning signs and 20 m.p.h. advisory speed warning signs be installed on Chestnut Avenue on its approaches to Trieste Drive. The Commission also requested that the City contact the Carlsbad School District (or North County Transit) to insure safe bus stops for school chi Idren. 3. Intersection Control at Levante Street and Nueva Castil la Way Because of the impaired sight distance and the geometrics at the above T-intersection, the Commission recommended that "YIELD" control be es- tablished on Nueva Castilla Way. 4. Review Intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard. Palomar AirDort Road and Manzano Drive After carefully reviewing the condition and collision diagram at the above location, the Commission recommended the extension of the white merge line on Carlsbad Boulevard northerly past the intersection of Manzano Drive (approximately for 100 feet). Additionally, they recom- mended that all the lane delineation on Carlsbad Boulevard in the vi- cinity of Manzano Drive be supplemented with raised reflective pave- ment markers. The Commission also recommended that "SLOW" signs be instal led for northbound traffic on Carlsbad Boulevard just south of Pa lomar Airport Road. The Commission will keep this area under observation. *- a Traffic Safety Commission - 2- January IO, 1978 5. "STOP" Control on Cazadero Drive at Alga Road and on Corintia Street at Alga Road The Commission recommended that Alga Road be established as a through street and that all intersecting streets be controlled by "STOP" sign installations when the Engineering Department deems necessary.
