MINUTES PRESENT: Bob Nelson, Rick Cecelski , Wally Rossall , Kent Whitson Bill Baldwin, and Les Evans ABSENT: Alan Jacobs, John Lusignan, Manny Puentes 1. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the May 7, 1979 and June 4, 1979 meetings were approved as submi tted. 2. Installation of Sianina for Left-Turn Sianals The Commission considered a recommendation from Carlsbad Police Officer, Shipley that "left or U-turn on left arrow only" signs be installed at El Camino Real intersections of Hosp Way, Plaza Drive and Marron Road. Kent Whitson explained that the signals had been designed to do without signing through the use of green, yellow and red arrows. The signals have been in place with no evident problems for approximately two years. The Cornmission felt that unless the officer was aware of a problem at the intersection which would be alleviated by installation of the signing that the intersection should be left as is. 3. Bobby Sox Softball Special Parking at Chase Field The Commission reviewed the request for diagonal parking around Chase Field for the Bobby Sox All-star Tournament. the added congestion caused by 500 to 700 Bobby Sox fans and participants would make special parking arrangements more hazardous than the existing situation. Tournament Directors and i ndi cate that the traffic and parki ng probl ems at Chase Field during the All-star games would be observed by police and engineering staff to develop recommendations for future events. The Commission felt that The City Engineer was directed to contact the Bobby Sox 4. Speed Zone Study on Levante The Commission discussed the problem of speed violations on Levante which has a 25 mph prima facie speed limit. The Commission recommended that the Police Department increase enforcement on Levante in the peak hours in the morning and afternoons. -2- MINUTES July 2, 1979 5. No Parking at Entrance to Parks and Recreation Department The Commission approved a request to provide a no parking zone for one car length on either side of the driveway to the Parks and Recreation Office on Pi0 Pico. 6. Loading Zone at Boys and Girls Club The Commission approved a request to provide a loading zone on Oak Street adjacent to the Boys and Girls Club. should be painted white for 75 feet west of Roosevelt.
