CALL TO ORDER: Chair Laurenn Barker called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
ROLL CALL: Commissioners Barker, Snyder, Schmidt, Jadhav, White, Chamberlain and Nassiri.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of the Art Commission meeting of May 7, 2020

PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
NEW LIBRARY AND CULTURAL ARTS DIRECTOR SUZANNE SMITHSON: Manager Schultz introduced
Suzanne Smithson as the new Library and Cultural Arts Director. A brief video was played sharing
Smithson's career and journey to becoming Director. The commissioners welcomed Suzanne in her
new role.
CULTURAL ARTS PROGRAM UPDATES: The commissioners viewed a PowerPoint presentation on how
COVID-19 has impacted Cultural Arts. The three Arts Coordinators briefly updated commissioners on
changes and updates to programming.
2020-21 COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS FUNDING PLAN: Performing Arts Coordinator Megan Gilby
reviewed the 2020-21 Community Arts Grants Funding Plan. The commission voted to approve the
updates to the 2020-21 Community Arts Grants for the Carlsbad Music Festival. Approved, 5/0/0/2,

APPOINTMENT OF CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR FOR THE ARTS COMMISSION: The commissioners
unanimously voted to reappoint Laurenn Barker as the Chair of the Arts Commission and Bryan Snyder
as the Vice Chair of the Arts Commission. Approved, 7 /0/0/0
CULTUAL ARTS OFFICE REPORT: Manager Schultz welcomed the Chair and Vice Chair to their roles.
CHAIR REPORT: Chair Barker encouraged commissioners and staff to participate in all free Cultural
Arts events.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS: Commissioners shared the highlights of their
participation and attendance at local arts events and programs.
ADJOURNMENT: Vice-chair Snyder made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:46 a.m.
