Utilities found during potholing are located on the surface by placing two reference points .
(typically 36" apart) on either side of the pothole along the centerline (or edge) of the utility, using . . .
paving nails or 60 penny nails as appropriate. Depth measurements (to the nearest % inch) are .. . .•.
taken midway between the two reference points. Utility alignment, depth, and other data are .
marked with pink paint on the pavement in the pothole area.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND COMMENTS: I
AirX was contracted by Sherri Howard, Associate Engineer of the City of Carlsbad to verify depth
and location of utilities on Basswood Avenue and James Drive in Carlsbad, CA. The information S
obtained was to assist in design work for the proposed Northwest Quadrant Storm Drain
Improvement Project (No.6608).
Between October 30 and 31s' 2013 AirX excavated 4 potholes on Basswood Avenue and . .
James Drive. All data collected was Submitted in report format on November 1st 2013. In . .. . :
preparation of these excavations, AirX marked out the dig locations and called in for USA . . .
(Underground Service Alert). . . .
Traffic control plans and permits were drawn and applied for by AirX. No parks were set as .. .
required by the city. Traffic control was set up by AirX. of the excavations were successful I .
and all Of the pertinent data was marked on the street and has been incorporated in this report. S
AirX used potable Water obtained offsite for excavation, and all water and material vacuumed up .. S
. . was disposed of offsite; no water was allowed to flow into storm drains or natural drainage. The . . . S.

Avenue. The photo was taken standing in front of pothole B1 01 W/E direction at the pothole location. A 4 inch VCP sewer
looking North. lateral was found at the depth of 45 inches 1/P. Utilities
were found within markout area.
