Dear Mr. Holtzmiller:
On the behalf of Bob Baker Volkswagen I would like to request your assistance with a
signage issue.
In September of 1999 Bob Baker Volkswagen was noticed by Volkswagen of America
that its current signage no longer conformed to Volkswagen's Corporate Identification
Standards, and that we were required by our franchise agreement to up-date our signage. On
November 29, 1999 Bob Baker Volkswagen agreed to update its signage and ordered the
up-dated slgns from Volkswagen of America. On March 27,2000 a permit was drawn for
installation of the up-dated signs, (permit # PSOO-27). About that same time the City of
Carlsbad issued a moratorium on signage in the City Carlsbad. City staff permitted us to up-
date the signage on our budding, however we were told that our Volkswagen pole sign up-
dated had to wait until the moratorium was lifted. Now that the moratorium has been lifted
we need to up-date ow Volkswagen pole sign. In recent discussions with the city's planning
staff the issue of the up-dated sign's location became an issue. Your staff has pointed out
that the revised sign regulations, (April 1995), for Car Country would require us to relocate
the pole slgn. We would like the new sign to replace the existing sign and at its current
location. In other words, we would like to have the up-dated sign grand fathered in at its
current location.
