SUBJECT: SDP 96-14 - RECONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED LEGOLAND OFFSITE
TRAFFIC DIRECTIONAL SIGNS
Dear Richard:
City staff has reconsidered your plan for offsite traffic directional signs for the LEGOLAND Park. I
wanted to make you aware that Section 21.41.070 (1 l)(E) of the Carlsbad Municipal Code prohibits
offsite signage. It is for this reason that City staff is not able to approve your request as submitted as
signs are proposed offsite of the LEGOLAND project and the Carlsbad Ranch Specific Plan Area.
However, in once again reviewing your proposal we found that the following signs could be permitted:
1) Sign HVR-1: This sign will be permitted provided it is relocated to the west side of Hidden
Valley Road to be on the LEGOLAND site and the size is reduced to 30” X 36”.
2) Sign CAN- 1: This sign will be permitted provided it is relocated to the southeast comer of
Cannon Road and Car Country Drive to be on Lot 3 (golf area) within the area subject to the
Carlsbad Ranch Specific Plan. This sign must be located on private property in addition to being
no larger than 30” X 36”.
3) Sign PAR 2: This sign is required by the Carlsbad Ranch Specific Plan. The sign must also
be placed on private property and the size reduced in size to 30” X 36”. Prior to occupancy
being granted for LEGOLAND a revised Sign PAR 2 must be installed.
Once you have revised the plan to include only those signs listed above please submit 4 copies of the
plan with the city’s sign permit application and required application fee. Should you have any questions
