Dear Ms. Cutter:
Staff has reviewed your application for a sign permit and cannot approve the sign permit for the following
reasans:
1. The total square footage of signage allowed for tenant space "A as indicated on the site plan is
43.74 square feet. This figure is based on ".6 of a square foot of sign area for each linear foot of
a building's linear foot street frontage". By measuring the linear frontage of the east and north
elevation of tenant space "A, the square footage permitted for each elevation calculates to 14.25
square feet for the north elevation and 29.49 square feet for the east elevation. The proDosal is
for a total of 56 square feet which exceeds the total square footage of sign permitted bv 12.26
square feet.
2. The sign also lacks an architectural design that is compatible with the building's architecture and
other signs located on the premises. The Villaae Desian Manual, which sets standards and design
guidelines for signs in the Village Redevelopment Zone, contains several statements indicating that
such signs need to be compatible in design with the building's architecture and other signs in the
same vicinity.
3. Staff prohibits the placement of any sign on the handrail as proposed or on any portion of the roof.
The signs must be placed on the building wall.
Please resubmit three copies of a site plan, sign elevations, and. building elevations with sign placement
incorporating the above comments into your new proposed design. In addition, staff needs to see what
will be placed on the sign face and in what colors.
