This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. Tried to educate non-compliant patrons, and contacted Police Department dispatch if those efforts were unsuccessful • Update on senior meal program: o During the past week, provided 885 meals to Carlsbad residents 60 or older.  522 meals were delivered to residents’ homes by staff  363 meals were picked-up at the Senior Center by residents o Total number of meals provided represents a 26% increase in the average total number of meals provided before the pandemic. o Picked up boxes of donated fresh produce from the Carlsbad Strawberry Company and re-distributed the produce through the senior meal program. • Provided the following virtual recreation programs: o Virtual preschool - Preschoolers attended their own Zoom meetings with five sessions of virtual classes Monday through Friday from the Kruger House o Successful Aging in Place: The Master Plan - Family-focused educational program covered such issues as housing, health, financial resources, transportation options and community and social access o Teens Teach Tech - High school students provided guidance to seniors on their various technology needs in this intergenerational program in partnership with Pacific Ridge High School o Lunch at the Culinary Lab - Delicious Belgian cuisine o UCSD Osher Lifelong Learning - A lecture on historic Point Loma Communication & Engagement • Communicated via city communication channels about the following topics related to the COVID-19 public health emergency: o Daily case data and update on county and state triggers o Tracking post-holiday surge o Vaccine updates including:  Distribution and the ability for those 75 and older to get vaccinated  New vaccines being submitted to the FDA  State’s upcoming online vaccine eligibility tool  Vaccine acceptance  More vaccine super stations o Starbucks in Washington state to help with vaccine distribution CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS Jan. 20, 2021 Page 5 o Allocation of CARES Act funding o City Council preview, including discussion of health order enforcement and federal funds o International travel testing requirement o County’s vote to increase enforcement on businesses not in compliance o Reminder of all public health guidelines o Virtual city programs:  Mental health and stress relief resources  Live Author Talk  Public meetings and input opportunities  Winter Reading Challenge  Female artist art lessons  Health and wellness  Family yoga • Updated COVID-19 webpages o Vaccine updates o Employee blog for mandatory review of COVID-19 prevention plan o Staff Human Relations training workshops • Updated memo for workplace outbreak procedures and notification process • Reprinted COVID-19 public health guidelines for the library, created signage for upcoming EMT/paramedic vaccine distribution events cc: Celia Brewer, City Attorney Geoff Patnoe, Assistant City Manager Gary Barberio, Deputy City Manager, Community Services Paz Gomez, Deputy City Manager, Public Works Laura Rocha, Deputy City Manager, Administrative Services Michael Calderwood, Fire Chief Neil Gallucci, Police Chief Maria Callander, Information Technology Director David Graham, Chief Innovation Officer Judy von Kalinowski, Human Resources Director Kristina Ray, Communication & Engagement Director Nick Ordille, Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Lancaster, Parks & Recreation Director
