On Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, Christine Davis from the Carlsbad Village Association (CVA) contacted Carlsbad Police Department (CPD) requesting information and/or updates related to a series of burglaries and/or vandalisms that had occurred in the downtown area of Carlsbad. Ms. Davis invited detectives to participate in a virtual meeting with members of the Carlsbad Village Association. The webinar was attended by approximately 40 attendees. The police department representatives were Lieutenant Kevin Lehan (Investigations Commander), Sergeant Paul Reyes (Investigations Supervisor) and Detective John Hall (Area Detective). During the meeting, the attendees were provided with information regarding the specific types of crimes that had occurred and what, if any, suspect information was available. Police department representatives responded to questions during the webinar, clarifying misinformation and misconceptions. The attendees were also provided with a summary of activities and general investigative steps already taken and provided reassured that the police department is proactively investigating the incidents. There was also a discussion about steps that could be taken to further assist the police department to prevent crimes, in addition to sharing strategies that CVA members could immediately employ to better safeguard their businesses. The feedback received from the attendees was very favorable and police representatives found it to be a very positive and educational event.
