This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. • Carlsbad CERT volunteers continued to support Operation Collaboration at Carlsbad vaccination site. Carlsbad’s rate is 3.92%, slightly lower than the 4.07% rate reported in Encinitas. Staff updates to City Council • Given the length of the March 23 City Council meeting agenda, the next COVID-19 Actions and Expenditures Report update to the council will be on April 6, 2021. The City Council will continue to receive these weekly written reports every Wednesday. The exact date of reopening is under review. o Prepared to re-open the Leo Carrillo Ranch Park historic structures for limited public use and tours at 25% maximum capacity, following the state’s guidance for museums and the county’s supplemental requirements. The exact date of reopening is also under review. o Prepared to re-open indoor dining at The Canyons Restaurant at The Crossings at Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course at 25% maximum capacity, following the state’s guidance for Restaurants and the county’s supplemental requirements. This reopening will occur by Friday, March 19. • Update on staff’s actions related to the senior meal program: o Provided 829 meals to Carlsbad residents 60 or older, during the past week ▪ 476 meals were delivered to residents’ homes by staff ▪ 353 meals were picked-up at the Senior Center by residents ▪ Total number of meals provided represents a 18% increase in the average total number of meals provided before the pandemic o Picked up boxes of donated fresh produce from the Carlsbad Strawberry Company and re-distributed the produce through the senior meal program • Staff provided the following virtual recreation programs: o Noble Purpose: Igniting Extraordinary Passion for Life and Work - A seven- interactive course that follows concepts put forth in the book of the same name. o Teen Culinary Lab: Virtual Cooking Class and Lunch at the Culinary Lab (Seniors) - Featured Indian cuisine including vegetable samosas and Makhani Murgh (velvet butter chicken). Next week’s labs prepare vegan cuisine. o UCSD Osher Lifelong Learning - Lecture titled “Great 20th Century Patrons of the Arts and their Artists (Part 1)” o Successful Aging in Place: Nutrition and Brain Health - Offered lifestyles and food choices that can minimize cognitive decline as we age. Library & Cultural Arts • This summer’s TGIF Concerts in the Park season will be canceled for 2021 as a public health precaution during the ongoing pandemic. The 35th anniversary of this popular community concert series will be postponed until 2022. The Cultural Arts staff team is currently exploring other virtual options for this summer with a focus on local talent, including the development of a TGIF in Your Backyard series and ramping up the new performance series, Virtually Artful.
