HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-05-11; City Council; Resolution 2021-109RESOLUTION NO. 2021-109 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE FORMATION OF AN INDEPENDENT REDISTRICTING COMMISSION THROUGH A RANDOM DRAW SELECTION METHOD WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California has determined at the March 9, 2021 City Council Meeting that they would like to authorize an independent redistricting commission to adopt new election boundaries; and WHEREAS, in accordance with California Elections Code 23003 this commission may not be directly appointed by the City Council or another elected official of the city; and WHEREAS, the City Council may prescribe the manner in which members are appointed as well as the number of members to be appointed provided the application process is open to all eligible residents; and WHEREAS, a list of the minimum eligibility requirements to be able to serve on the independent commission can be found in California Election Code Section 23003. WHEREAS, the minimum eligibility requirements and any additional eligibility requirements established by the City Council, as stated in the minutes for the City Council meeting held on May 11, 2021, will be reflected in the application for appointment to the commission. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1.That the above recitations are true and correct. 2.That the City Council has authorized the formation of an independent redistricting commission through a random draw selection method as stated in the minutes for the City Council meeting held on May 11, 2021. 3.That the City Council has approved the number of members appointed to the commission to be 7 4.That the City Manager may take any -further action necessary and appropriate to carry out the purpose and intent of this resolution. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad on the 11th day of May, 2021, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Hall, Blackburn, Acosta, Bhat-Patel, Schumacher_ NAYS: None.
