The improvement area consists of a previously graded and currently undeveloped building pad. Initial grading of the subject site and surrounding lots took place in 2007 under the observation of others (as described in reference Geocon, 2016), and consisted of placement of an approximately minimum five-foot thick cap of compacted fill materials over native granitic rock. The site is bounded by developed lots to the west and south (Lots 18 and 13, respectively), residential homes to the east, and open land to the north. Recent project work summarized herein consisted of excavation and compaction of subgrade materials for a proposed building pad, pavement areas, and associated improvement areas, and the construction of a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall. 2.0 FILL PLACEMENT Existing subgrade materials were overexcavated in general conformance with the project geotechnical documents and plans. Previous grading, performed under the observation of others, generally resulted in a building pad where at least two feet of compacted fill underlies bottoms of proposed footings. Localized overexcavation to accommodate deeper footings (e.g., loading dock footings) was performed as part of the recent grading described in this report, along with surficial grading to achieve finished pad grade. Overexcavation bottoms were confirmed as firm and competent by a CTE representative, and then scarified and moisture conditioned prior to placement of new fill materials, under periodic observation by a CTE representative. \\ESC _ SER VER\Projects\ 10-13000 to 10-13999 Projects\ 10-13583G\Rpt_ As-Graded Final.doc Final As-Graded Geotechnical Report Page2 Proposed Carlsbad Oaks North Business Park, Lot 17 Whiptail Loop, Carlsbad, California December 26, 2018 CTE Job No. 10-13583G Fill materials were moisture conditioned, placed, and compacted in lifts at above optimum moisture content. Based on the field results, compaction in the tested areas was performed to a minimum 90 percent relative density (95 percent in pavement areas), as determined by ASTM D1557. Grading was performed using standard heavy-duty construction equipment. 3.0 TESTING Field-testing, as scheduled by the contractor, was performed to supplement the noted field observations. Testing of compacted fill addressed by this report was conducted between April, 2017 and July, 2018. Field-testing of the compacted fill soil was conducted in accordance with ASTM D- 6938-08a (nuclear method). Results of the field-testing indicate that fill materials were compacted to a minimum relative compaction of 90 percent (95 percent in pavement areas) of the laboratory maximum dry density and at above the optimum moisture content as determined by test method ASTM D-1557. Tabulated results of the field compaction testing are provided in the attached Table I. Laboratory determination of the reference compaction values for the fill materials are provided in Table II, "Laboratory Test Results." Approximate field compaction test locations for the building pad are shown on Figure 2. 4.0 ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATION Any additional grading and backfilling should be observed and tested by CTE. However, prior to any future development of the site, an appropriate updated geotechnical report should be completed. \\ESC_SERVER\Projects\10-13000 to 10-13999 Projects\10-13583G\Rpt_As-Graded Final.doc Final As-Graded Geotechnical Rep01i Page 3 Proposed Carlsbad Oaks North Business Park, Lot 17 Whiptail Loop, Carlsbad, California December 26, 2018 CTE Job No. 10-135830 5 .0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS CTE concludes that the geotechnical aspects of the grading covered by this report are in general conformance with the approved geotechnical report (Geocon, 2016) and the grading and improvement plans (Project No. SDP16-04, Drawing No. 497-3A), additional geotechnical documents provided during grading, and this final as-graded geotechnical report. Therefore, the recommendations provided in the referenced report remain suitable for project design and construction. 6.0 LIMITATIONS The field evaluation, laboratory testing, and geotechnical analysis presented in this report have been conducted according to current engineering practice and the standard of care exercised by reputable geotechnical consultants performing similar tasks in this area. No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made regarding the conclusions, recommendations and opinions expressed in this rep01i. Variations may exist and conditions not observed or described herein may be encountered during construction. Even with the design and construction precautions provided, some post-construction soil movement and associated distress should be anticipated. CTE's conclusions and recommendations are based on an analysis of the observed conditions.
