Recommended Action
Receive an informational update on the activities of the State of California Department of Parks
& Recreation, San Diego Coast District, North Sector.
Discussion
Parks Planner Michael Tully will provide an update on the State of California Department of
Parks & Recreation activities along the Carlsbad coastline, on behalf of California State Parks
San Diego Coast District Acting Superintendent Sean Homer.

Good afternoon Michael,
Below are updates for California State Parks. I am not able to attend the meeting on June 1. Please
share these updates with the commission.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
1. Agua Hedionda Dredge Project
This project has been completed, all equipment and laydown areas have been
demobilized and the volleyball courts have been reestablished south of the warm water
jetties.
2. Volleyball on the State Beach
Beach volleyball play is open on a limited basis for Youth Day Camps and Single
Household/Family Play.
3. Bluff Native Plant Project
California State Parks has some habitat restoration in progress along the bluffs near
the south end of the campground as well as the bluffs at South Ponto.
4. Camp Store at South Carlsbad Campground
The camp store is open at this time. We anticipate the attached restaurant to open
in June 2021.
5. North Sector Office Adobe Wall Repairs
The long awaited repairs to the corner of the North Sector Office at Beech Ave. and
Carlsbad Blvd. are in progress. The adobe block work has been completed. A
contractor will install the cement caps soon.
6. South Carlsbad State Beach Campground
The campground is open and booking up for the summer.
7. Tide pool Interpretation
Based on current public health guidelines we do not have any in person programing
scheduled.
8. Dogs on the beach
Dogs are not allowed on beaches, within the City of Carlsbad, managed by California
State Parks. This continues to be a challenge in the Terre Mar area. We have
increased our law enforcement patrols in this area to provide better public
education. We have also increased our social media messaging. We will continue to
monitor.
