STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION (2003 EDITION OR LATIEST REVISION). 6. SAN DIEGO AREA REGIONAL STANDARD DRAWINGS (2003 EDITION OR LATEST REVISION). GENERAL NOTES -TRAFFIC SIGNAL: ------~ 1. THE LOCATION OF ALL UNDERGROUND UTILITIES ON THESE PLANS IS APPROXIMATE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DETERMINE THE DEPTH OF ALL UTILITIES, INCLUDING THOSE NOT SHOWN ON THIS PLAN AND VERIFY ALL JOB SITE CONDITIONS. 2. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL NECESSARY PERMITS AND NOTIFY ALL UTILITY AGENCIES AT LEAST 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF CONSTRUCTION. 3. ALL NEW PULL BOXES AND COVERS SHALL BE CONCRETE UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN. PULL BOX COVERS SHALL BE MARKED WITH "TRAFFIC SIGNAL". ALL PULL BOXES SHALL BE NO. 5 UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. MAXIMUM PULL BOX SPACING SHALL BE 200". 4. ALL CONDUIT SHALL BE 3" UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. 5. ALL TRAFFIC SIGNAL POLE FOUNDATIONS SHALL HAVE A 3" CONDUIT INSTALLED TO THE ADJACENT NO. 5 PULL BOX. THE CONTROLLER FOUNDATION SHALL HAVE A SPARE 3" CONDUIT AND PULL ROPE STUBBED OUT TO THE ADJACENT NO. 6 PULL BOX FOR FUTURE USE. 6. ALL SIGNAL HEADS SHALL BE 12" IN DIAMETER WITH BACK PLATES. ALL RED, YELLOW, GREEN AND PEDESTRIAN INDICATIONS SHALL BE L.E.D. 7. PEDESTRIAN HEADS AND PUSH BUTTONS SHALL BE INTERNATIONAL SYMBOLS. PEDESTRIAN SIGNALS SHALL BE TYPE "A", L.E.D. PEDESTRIAN PUSH BUTTONS SHALL BE 2" ADA. B. ANCHOR BOLT NUT COVERS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL STANDARDS. 9. SIGN PANELS FOR INTIERNALL Y ILLUMINATED STREET NAME SIGNS SHALL BE FABRICATED USING PRISMATIC, CUBE CORNER REFLECTIVE SHEETING (DIAMOND GRADE OR EQUAL) AND SHALL NOT BE MORE THAN 6' WIDE. 10. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LAYOUT AND INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC STRIPING, PAVEMENT MARKINGS AND LEGENDS, PARKING REMOVAL AND TRAFFIC SIGNING SHOWN ON THESE PLANS. 11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN APPROVAL OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE LOCATIONS OF THE STRIPING, PAVEMENT MARKINGS AND LEGENDS, PARKING REMOVAL AND SIGNING PRIOR TO PAINTING AND INSTALLATION. 12. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REMOVAL OF ALL CONFLICTING STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS BY GRINDING. INDEX OF SHEETS: 13. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT ERECT ANY SIGNAL STANDARD MORE THAN TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED TRAFFIC SIGNAL TURN-ON UNLESS APPROVED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE. 14. FLASHING SIGNAL OPERATION SHALL BE RED ON ALL PHASES. PEDESTRIAN SIGNALS SHALL BE BLANK DURING FLASHING OPERATIONS. 15. ALL TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN COORDINATION WITH THE SIGNING AND STRIPING CONTRACTOR. 16. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MONUMENTATION AND /OR BENCHMARKS WHICH ARE DISTURBED OR DESTROYED BY CONSTRUCTION. SUCH POINTS SHALL BE REFERENCED AND REPLACED WITH APPROPRIATIE MONUMENTATION BY A LICENSED LAND SURVEYOR OR REGISTERED CIVIL ENGINEER AUTHORIZED TO PRACTICE LAND SURVEYING. A CORNER RECORD OR RECORD OF SURVEY, AS APPROPRIATE, SHALL BE FILED BY THE LICENSED LAND SURVEYOR OR REGISTIERED CIVIL ENGINEER AS REQUIRED BY THE LAND SURVEYOR'S ACT. 17. LIMIT LINES AND CROSSWALKS SHALL BE FIELID LOCA TIED. 1 B. TESTING OF CONTROL EQUIPMENT AND CABINET WIRING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED AT A FACILITY DESIGNATIED BY THE CITY OF CARLSBAD. CROSSWALKS SHALL HAVE 10' INSIDE DIMENSION UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. 11. ALL CROSSWALKS, LIMIT LINES, STOP BARS, PAVEMENT ARROWS AND PAVEMENT LEGENDS SHALL BE THERMOPLASTIC UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. 12. FIRE HYDRANT PAVEMENT MARKERS SHALL CONFORM TO FHWA MUTCD 2003 EDITION AS AMENDED BY THE MUTCD 2003 CALIFORNIA SUPPLEMENT AND SAN DIEGO REGIONAL STANDARD DRAWING M-19. 13. ALL SIGNS SHALL BE STANDARD SIZE AS SHOWN IN THE FHWA MUTCD 2003 EDITION AS AMENDED BY THE MUTCD 2003 CALIFORNIA SUPPLEMENT UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. 14. SIGN POSTS SHALL BE SQUARE PERFORATED STEEL TUBING WITH BREAKAWAY BASE PER SAN DIEGO REGIONAL STANDARD DRAWING M-45. 15. WHEN A SIGN IS ATTACHED TO A POLE, IT SHALL BE MOUNTED USING A STANDARD CITY MOUNTING BRACKET WITH STRAPS. 16. EXISTING SIGNS THAT ARE REMOVED SHALL BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE CONTRACTOR. 17. "STOP" AND "STOP AHEAD" SIGNS AND PAVEMENT LEGENDS SHALL NOT BE REMOVED UNTIL TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE OPERATIONAL OR UNTIL DIRECTED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE. 18. NEW "SIGNAL AHEAD" SIGNS AND PAVEMENT LEGENDS SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED UNTIL TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE OPERATIONAL OR UNTIL DIRECTED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR OR HIS REPRESENTATIVE. 17.
