Recommended Action
Staff recommends selecting a new meeting time for the monthly Arts Commission meetings to better
align with community interests and other city boards and commissions.
Executive Summary/Discussion Historically, the Carlsbad Arts Commission has met at 9:00 a.m. for its regular meeting on the first Thursday of each month. Prior to the pandemic, meetings were relocated to the City Council Chambers, to provide consistency with other city boards and commissions, and easier access to the meetings for the
public. Prior to this relocation, the Arts Commission would often convene in a meeting room at the City
Library on Dove Lane. Cultural Arts staff has consistently received inquiries about the morning meeting
time. Attendance by members of the public has been either nonexistent or minimal at best. In the spirit of greater transparency and to encourage more public input, a later meeting time would provide a more convenient forum for the community. Attached is a listing of city board and commissions and their meeting times.
Fiscal Analysis
No additional city funding is being requested at this time.
Next Steps Upon approval, staff will update the city’s website and other information resources.

month at 9 a.m.
Beach Preservation Meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday
of every even numbered month
Historic Preservation Regular meetings are held the second Monday of
each odd numbered month at 6 p.m.
Housing Commission Regular meetings are held the second Thursday
of every month on Zoom at 4 p.m.
Library Board of Trustees Regular meetings are held the fourth Wednesday
of every month at 4 p.m.
Parks and Recreation Commission Regular meetings are held the third Monday of
every month at 5:30 p.m.
Planning Commission Regular meetings are held the first and third
Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m.
Senior Commission Regular meetings are held the first Thursday of
every month from 3 - 4 p.m.
Traffic & Mobility Commission Regular meetings are held the first Monday of
every month at 3 p.m.
