In 2018, the City Council revised the Carlsbad Municipal Code to create uniform policies and procedures related to boards and commissions, requiring each board or commission to provide the City Council for its approval an annual work plan of activities to be undertaken. The work plan includes the commission’s mission statement, its composition and its annual goals and tasks. Some of the goals and tasks within the work plan are multi- year efforts that will carry over into future years. The purpose of the work plan is to encourage increased dialogue between the commission and the City Council. The intent is to ensure that each commission is working in line with the priorities of the City Council. Each year, the Arts Commission will review and update its workplan. Arts Commissioners are asked to provide input on the suggested edits by staff and then approve the workplan. Next Steps • Presentation of the Arts Commission workplan to City Council by city staff in Spring 2021. • With the addition of two new Arts Commissioners in April 2021, review and revise committee assignments. • Agendas for future meetings will be developed consistent with the approved work plan.
